For attention of Sidey I reckon ;

Printers buy a 2nd hand paper drill , I fit socket and coming to fit a 5pin plug to the flex I find  they've used a continental flex of  Brown/ Blue/2 x Blacks + E , so not knowing what colour is what I trace the connections .

Phases =  Bro/ Bk / Bk       Usual on this stuff.

The blue however   . = Neutral , which went to straight to a safety stop limit on the top cover of the m/c( which lifts up)  then down to the two  220V solenoids  .

Does the job I guess but I've never seen it done that way before.   :CNeutral from socket straight to a stop limit under the top of that m/c ....drops the coils out on the starters.

Anyone else ,?  it threw me for a minute

Ask for the machinery directive technical file.  Ask what category of safety system it has?

I'll bet it doesn't conform to 60204 at all.

From memory some of the Genie personell lifts had this switched neutral thing years back with black and white wiring! Might even have a wiring diagram in the garage somewhere out of interest. that was on single phase mind. Too many years ago to remember. Talking to an AC engineer a couple of months ago and he said he had similar on again American kit I think........

Neutral switching not allowed, as in the event of a fault to earth, with N being earthed the contactors/solenoids will stay energised.

This is why for anything more than 3 electrical devices on a machine a control transformer is required with primary and secondary over current protection, with one side of this referenced to earth, to give a TNS supply, and all control devices in the other "leg" of the supply.

I'd guess older than 1990 TBH?

1990  .......stands a chance TBH  , they picked it up from a print finisher gone bust.    (Morgana ...appears to be UK built but may be just distribution ,  most of these things are Italian  or German .
