Hi Folks

I have a Newlec alarm system and all was going well until 2am last night. We had a power cut for a couple of hours and I heard the usual tone from the control panel indicating this. After 2 hours the alarm bell were off and I couldn't turn off the alarm no matter how many times I entered my code. There was no keypad tone off the control panel either but there was definitely power at it as the LCD was lit up. Would the back up battery be dead? Or does anyone know how long the back up battery should last during a power cut. Just one last thing the alarm hadn't being set when it went off

Thanks very much

The back up battery will last as long as it lasts. It needs replacing every 4-5 years max, ideally less as most of the cheap panels suffer from blown components or lock ups due to faulty batteries. There is also a battery in the sounder outside so once the battery in the panel drops below a certain voltage the bell will sound due to the loss of power so no amount of code entering will stop it.

as lurch says, the battery should be replaced every few years. most alarm panel problems are directly caused by a faulty battery. leave it long enough, and simply replacing the battery wont help with anything

how long the battery lasts depends on the size of the battery & the power the system needs to run
