Hello,

If I went into a house and they had 3036 fuses and they wanted a few sockets added, as there will be no rcd protection i would need to install a rcd, how do u think is the best way of doing this?

many thanks

ps.. this is not a job i am doing, just a thought that has been bugging me.

As dean suggests fitting an RCD for that specific circuit (although fitting a new board wouldn't be that much more tbh) will satisfy your compliance as only the circuit(s) you are working on need to comply.

Ian.

four choices in no particular order...

1)replace the whole cu for a new one with rcd protection built in

2)install a stand alone rcd and using some 6mm t&e from the 3036 fuse out to the rcd and another 6mm from the rcd back into the original cu and connect ringmain line and neutral to this 6mm using connector block or wago's

3)install a new one(or two for future uses) way cu and split the main supply tails with 100A connector block and extend original ringmain into this new cu to a new 32A mcb.

4)depending on expected loading for the new sockets, you could install a rcd switched fused spur and feed off from this with your new socket outlets.

5)Assuming no need for RCD apart from socket protection(cables not buried in walls less than 50mm etc..), install a socket with rcd in.

thanks betty. very usefull.

does anyone have any photos. Im trying to take in all of the jargon and find it easer if i can see the thing i am reading about.

many thanks

You could look through the Black Museum and the your photo's threads for inspiration.

One of the major problems for any one learning the trade is to know by sight what they are actually looking at.

When you have established what your looking at you must confirm that by testing, never take anything for granted.

Visual is so important, but should always be backed up with proper and thorough testing.
