Hi All

I was asked by a friend to look at installaing a cooker supply in his rented house as the landlord said if he wanted it he would have to pay for it.

after looking at the condition of the insatllation the property is in need of rewiring due to the wiring being old VIR cable and no earth at lights etc. 

he spoke to his landlord about this but the landlord wont pay for the work 

So i was asked by my friend if i could give him a written report on my findings. which i said i would do i just was wondering can i just give him a danger notice or do i need to give a full periodic condition report

I agree with Zee on this,,,,,but when giving the paperwork to the landlord a note recommending an EICR would cover his back if anything was to happen

Do a quote for the work you have been asked to do, if agreed do that work...

If you have NOT been asked to do a PIR then don't do one!

A cooker circuit will be a new cable back to the fusebox...

so as Zee & Theory say....

Stick your own 2-way cooker CU in...

All of your work will comply with BS7671  (Assuming bonding is in place)...

Unless of course you can afford to run as a charity doing unrequested work then leave it..

Lighting circuits without CPC's are permissible providing class II fittings are used..

VIR is not automatically dangerous without confirming by doing tests...

Who is paying for doing the required tests?

I would ask your friend to obtain a copy of the last PIR before making a wrong judgements...

Bottom line:-

IT IS THE LANDLORDS property...

He could accuse you of damaging his electrical installation if his previous certificates say it is acceptable!

As Steve said..

IS IT DANGEROUS?????

or just old and outdated but still functional?
