I came to turn on my PC this morning and NOTHING.

It closed down last night with no problems, but this morning it was dead.

Tester came out power going into PSU but sod all comming out.

So off to the pc shop"local" thats not a normal psu is what I got told from one PC Expert lol.

Off to scan I thought, I do need the pc as all my office and paperwork is on the PC.

Anyway I manged to get a bargain 1000w PSU for

wow never seen a 1000 watt 1 before lol... i thought mine was big at 400 lol.

lol my old one was only 530w and the people at scan said that was far too underpowered.

bigger is better because there is not as much stress in the components, the computer will only take the power (watts) it needs :D

Reality check, a 1kW PSU is squarely aimed at those chaps who like two run 2x Nvidia or ATi graphics cards as these under load (games) can draw 380watts (each) and around 200watts (each) idle

for the rest of us 500watts is more than enough, the main consideration when buying a PSU is the cost of the components used by the manufacturer, better quality = cleaner power output, stable 12v & 5v rails, power efficiency and longevity

Another reason for buying a quality product might be if you have more than 1 HDD, as these can draw a large current at power on, and since we don't have the option of delayed spindle start on SATA/PATA cheap PSU's will degrade in time under these types of load

mines lasted over 2 years with 3 HDD's. it had 4 at one time for a few month

i would have 2 ATi GPUs that draw 30A each just for the quality
