Hi guys could you have a look over the spec below & seee what you come up with price wise, i quoted & won this job a few months ago & recently had a site meeting to check requirements where the client added a load of extras such as loads of 2way & int lighting & supplies for renewables such as solar pv & ASHP. The job is a large extension to a 2 bed cottage with a lot of changes to the existing wiring & the client wasnt happy with my estimate of 2.5k for the extras so i wanted a couple of second opinions if possible.

I have recently had a new baby & have become a bibt stressed over this situation.

Apologies for the long post & if its in the wrong area of the forum. headbang

Regards

Can really say with any accuracy with the details but As a rough ballpark supply and fit

Thats what i came up with 3.5k originally & then an extra 2.5k, they are tryin to cut down on budget as they were ripped off by the original builder

Cheers

Why the **** do people think just because they've been ripped off by someone else that the next poor guy in has to do it on the cheap!

It annoys me when people say it to me and it makes me wanna charge more!

and probably all because they went for the bloke who was half the price of everyone else who quoted....argghh

That looks 10k+ to me :C
yeah maybe, its quite a list!

I would be looking at 7k minimum

On jobs like this a LOT of things can change very quickly and usually these changes cost you your time, time you could/should be earning elsewhere

What annoys me about this is, your price sounds fair and I'm sure when the jobs done he will almost certainly have many years trouble free electrics and he is safe in the knowledge if a problem does arise you will answer the phone and arrange to sort it

Or you go cheap and cheerful, I've lost track of the times I've been asked to sort tripping rcds or light faults after a customer has used a fly by night and guess what?

He must have changed his number bcos I've tried ringing him lots of times...

You get what you pay for

Personally for me....

there is NO WHERE near enough info.....

Distance from home? (fuel)

Working alone or with mate(s)?

How big are the rooms?

How far is the CU from the bulk of the wiring?

How much cable do you reckon you need?

Solid floors / wood floors?

Brick walls / Stud walls?

What are your overheads?

How far apart are Gas/Water & Incoming electric?

White accessories / decorative metal accessories?

Customer supplying any fittings or you supplying everything?

What discount can you get off your wholesaler?

etc...

etc..

Did you give the customer an itemised quotation or just a ball park figure?

IMHO if the stuff is itemised the customer can see what and where the costs come from..

And thus if they accept it or not..

AND

the likely cost of any additions.

Materials+Labour+Admin+Fuel+A bit of profit = the cost I would charge..

It is in all honesty not rocket science for any business person to add up their numbers for producing an item or providing a service...

Either just stand by what you have quoted..

or walk away.....

or work as a charity dropping prices at every customers whim!

I recently did a 4 bed new build with ASHP/UFH system (NuHeat)

I'd say looking at that list around

I would be very careful with this one if you are doing a lot of work on the existing cottage this can take a lot of time. Personally looking at that list I think you are well under budget but maybe in your area prices are lower.

There is enough info for me, it would be about 13k and I will throw in a free certificate.
