Rev, I'd forget the 3D part and just get as high a resolution as you can for the budget. BenQ get good reviews have a look at Avforums they have lot of info on projectors or trustedreviews.com, techradar.com, whathifi.com

InFocus projectors are good budget units

DLP vs LCD, LCD may cope better with the higher ambient light but are usually slightly more expensive than DLP. If your screen is close to the projector some DLP

Thanks Ian. Not looking for 3D parrticularly but some of the Benq models are 3D ready.

You mention screen - at the mo we just project on to the wall which is painted white. also worth noting the projector is about 6M from the wall. Recently moved it as image was too small for some in the congregation. So XGa or WXGA then? is that how resolution is measured? will that make a difference when viewing DVDs etc on the composite input?

Electric screen get you:^O posh kirk or what.

Out of curisoity where did you find an electric screen for that kind of dosh.

Don't forget the Pixel sizes if try to go to big on a low resolution projector.

as you say Ian the wall isnt the best for the image. at 4.9M an image of 9-10' wide is well big enough. I have seen an electric screen on ebay 120"wide approx

the ones you mention are PC output resolutions as opposed to tv / video ratio's they would be the likes of 480, 720, 1080 @ 16:9 format
For the record 480 was the resolution decided for the first PC screens because that's what they got using TV CRT's and standard glass modules
