Where the wild things are
I walk past my local councillors house almost everyday, they recently had a lot of work done on the cheap by the looks of things; render is soaking up rain water, no recent notifications on my road though a lot of work has been done recently. :C

Anyway... I noticed that there is a new feed from the gas meter in 15mm copper pipe, I didn't think this was allowed and it had to be steel?

just being nosy.

Has to be steel if run internally in communal areas.

As said, no problem with copper outside.

As also said, 15mm is a bit small for a boiler feed, but is possible if not a combi and is very near the meter inside.

Most boilers are now fed with 22mm pipe for gas flow. Only Cowboys use 15mm as cheaper but then you did say councillor so they know all Cowboys and understand cheap. :innocent

Apparently you can use 15mm for a system boiler... so I've been told

Its a bit like cable sizes, you can calculate the size of pipe required and then carry out testing during commissioning to confirm correct pipe size.

the gas pipe has to be sized so that the pressure drop between the incoming supply point and the point of utilisation meets a specific limit, much the same as voltage drop in electrical installations.

The end result is that some smaller boilers can be safely fed with 15mm pipe if the pipe run is short, or the same boiler may need 22mm or even 28mm for part of the run if the boiler is a long way away from the incoming supply.

Jaysus, I have a small combi , 28, 2&1/2 bed semi, my has man worked out 22mm easy, and he's a friend of mine, so 15mm must be beside the boiler with a system.

I had a bust up with Nottingham City Council planning over an external 15mm gas pipe feeding the boiler in the flat above me. It was an eyesore on a listed building.

“Is it yellow”

“Yes”

“Get stuffed”  or words to that effect.

The original internal gas feed to the flat was 22mm ? ? ? ?
