i have been asked to do some work on a ground floor flat. I noticed that the light in the bathroom is just a shade and lamp !!

I know that has to be changed as it is the zones. But as the light is on the same circuit as the rest of the lights should i fit an RCD or an rcbo the current board is a wylex board with just standard circuit breakers, I think it  was installed in 2009 as the test sticker indicates this.

I think it does need some sort of protection. i was going to suggest  and rcbo

maybe you need to go re-read bathroom section of 7671... its perfectly acceptable to have a batten / pendant in the correct place... not ideal, but not againt regs

and if your doing work not related to the bathroom light, what makes you think you must change it / RCD the circuit?

sounds like your creating work that doesnt need done

Out of interest do you have copies of the regs etc,as I note that you are self taught, have you attended any courses relevant to electrics?

This type of question is the very reason why RCD's shouldn't have been introduced under the guise of, one and all safety measure, it has stopped people entering the trade by gaining the technical knowledge to understand why they use certain equipment in certain circumstances.

Thanks for all you help. The wiring has been put in trunking and they want it fitted in the ceilings and walls that is when i i spotted the pendent fitting. As i said it is not outside the zones so i suggested an IP rated fitting. Just wasn't sure about the RCD.

I am waiting for the new regs book to be delivered. I have done the course but a long time ago so I'm trying to catch up with all the new changes very fast. so i might be asking a few questions until i have re read the bible. lol
