hello all,

on a megger 1552 do i set the v to 25v or 50v?

i keep having a warning sign and 25v flashing.

also when it did trip it was (i set it to 50v) is gave a time of 51.4ms i take it this should be below 40ms. would this be an rcd problem or wiring fault?

thanks

paul

I have the 1553 and would have hoped they were the same. I can not recal this 25V/50V setting you refer to.

You should set the dial on the right toeither ramp/0.5I/I/5I and then do the test at 0degrees and 180degrees.

If you are testing a 30mA at I then 51.4ms is not a fail.

Ian.

is a ramp better than a auto test?

what is a fail?

the 25v/50v is set by holding down the test button while turning the megger on, you then press test again to see what the setting is and press buzzer ( i think) to change.

thanks ian

Just seen that in the manual. Never set it.

As for tests, you can do an auto test, but I would also recommend doing ramp too. I always test all 4 for each rcd even though the only results normally recorded are I & 5I for peace of mind.

Ramp tests the tripping current, not time.

the 1552 on auto does 5 rcd tests. 1/2, 1x and 5x. 1/2x should not trip, 1x should trip in less than 200ms (possibly more is S type), and 5x should be less than 40ms

Paul did you not get a manual with your Megger???? If not get one because it sounds like you need it :D there's nothing worse than not knowing how to use your gear when a customer is watching, or you can't explain some strange numbers cos you don't understand how your instrument works. I hope that doesn't sound harsh it's not meant to be, but I would get a manual and test your own electrics over and again until you are happy you fully understand your megger :z :z:z:z :D

If I were to guess I would say that the 25v / 50v setting is a maximum touch voltage for use with RCD testing..

For a 61008 RCD the max trip time is 300mS at 1x... 40mS at 5x

I'd test 1/2x, 1x, 5x, Ramp & test .... I'd do the 1x & 5x at 0deg and 180deg

Fails will be dependant upon the type of RCD....

try chapter 11 OSG page 91 onwards;)

I have the fluke and just set it to 30 ma auto it does th 180 etc for you as well you then wait for the rcd to trip then reset it until it stops tripping then thats it you revue it with the up down button on the fluke.

Mike.
