I was asked to fit an oven below a hob as quick as possible..seemed straight forward fit flex to cooker 13amp plug into socket.

On my way home get the keys tenants moving in friday just gone.

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm34/spinnekar/S5000564.jpg

the cooker socket,,,,,,,spur 1.5mm

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm34/spinnekar/S5000566.jpg

the socket i thought was feeding the spur,,,alas a spur 1.5mm

i checked all sockets in kitchen 1.5mm spurs :_|

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm34/spinnekar/S5000565.jpg

cooker hood 1.5 mm t+e to flex twisted together of course :^O

no junction box anywhere !!!!!!!!

alarm bells are ringing so i decide to check a socket upstairs that had been replaced with a wickes special

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm34/spinnekar/S5000569.jpg

i originally put in my martindale plug tester and i showed it was ok.

as you can see the earth is missing on the faceplate :_|

first thing friday phone agency tell them the problem,,,can i fix it by lunchtime :^O :^O

nope and you shouldn't let the tenants move in.

landlord phones me and what a suprise.....

he bought it after it was refurbished,, no certs :( :( :(

i thought he was going to cry just waiting for the call to fix it :D

the worrying thing was that the handyman was going to fit the cooker and hes not got a clue

no smokes in there either

FFS! its scary when you think these are supplies for Kitchen appliances:_|

You have to laugh at these.... or you'd CRY!!! :( :( :(

It looks like the sort of work done by the people who say...

"Oh I know a bloke who does a bit of electrics... he'll sort that out for you for

If you look closely at the cooker hood photo there seems to be 2 2.5mm cables going vertically.

couldnt trace them,,,possible disconnected

you should have seen the boiler,,,,,it was all borded and tiled ,,, poor plumber had to rip it to bits to certify it

Nah..........Just fit a 10A MCB...

]:)
What.... do they make em that big? :p? :|

I only ever use 6A!

Tips & Tricks... save money.. buy in bulk!

1000 x 6a MCB mr wholesaler please! :D

You just multiply em up by Parallel wiring if you need bigger sizes..

3 of em in parallel, approx 18a... that'll do for Imm Heaters!

5 of em in parallel, approx 30a... that'll do for Ring Mains!

8 of em in parallel, approx 48a.. that'll do for a Shower!

You just may need a slightly longer CU enclosure..

Thats All???? ]:) ] :) ]:)

10A phtt! :| :(

 :^O:^O:^O:p:p;\ ; \ ; \ :^O :^O;)

More pics from the house of horrors ..... :_|

found the kitchen ring behind tiles,,,behind the cooker hood

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm34/spinnekar/S5000573.jpg

ring cct was not long enough

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm34/spinnekar/S5000570.jpg

but it was ok ...that found a small piece of 2.5mm to extend it,,,,,twisted together of course :^O

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm34/spinnekar/S5000572-1.jpg

and yes that is a 20 amp jb behind a tile feeding 3 sockets in 1mm

they had knocked out a brick to get it in :^O

upstairs socket ring not long enough twisted 2.5mm to extend

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm34/spinnekar/S5000577.jpg

otherside of kitchen double socket feeding washing machine

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm34/spinnekar/S5000574.jpg

which then left one socket on 1mm spur to be traced so off we go upstairs.

pull the carpet back bingo !!!!! floorboards had been replaced where the cable should have come......

unscrew the boards .......hissing sound.........smell gas.......screw back

call plumber mate...turns gas off.....remove board .....

That's the sort of stuff you would think is a set-up if someone had shown you as examples of bad work! :|

It's scary that somebody is out there who's done that work..

what else have they done in other properties???? :OX(X( X(
