Scale Drawings

Someone should know the answer to this.

Drawing some plans for my house for collage work.

drawing the kitchen, its 2.1m by 3.5m

the drawing i am doing is 10.5cm by 17.50cm (scaled down)

what ratio is this to the scale.

im using that scale but it wont fit onto A4 paper what I have to use.

Does any one know what the best scale is to use please.

Just so you know - it's very simple to work out,

Actuall kitchen 210cm drawing is 10.5cm (need to be same units)

210/10.5 = 20

Scale is 20:1

You can use any scale you like. If you drawing won't fit on your bit of paper you need a bigger bit of paper or a bigger scale!

if your paper is A4 measure max distance drawing can be on said bit of paper and devide by it's actual size

eg 25cm max width - 610cm/25cm = 24.4 so you could work at 25:1

A4 paper is 29.8 cm x 21.2 cm. Allowing 1.5 cm for margins leaves you a workable area of 26.8 cm x 18.2 cm.

If you worked to a scale of 30:1 your drawing would be 20.3 cm x 13.8 cm

If you worked to a scale of 25:1 your drawing would be 24.3 cm x 16.5 cm

Architects usually work to 20:1, 50:1, 100:1 etc but 50:1 would be a bit small in my opinion.
