  Anyone else have to make an  appointment to visit the local tip ?    

Yes...

initially it was closed completely before the appointment routine was set up.. 

You can book on-line, they allocate visits in 10 minute intervals...

And state make sure you can unload everything you bring within 10mins without any assistance from any of the tip operatives!

I've had two visits since the beginning of the March lockdown.
