I know your not allowed to spur off a spur on a ring but are you allowed to fcu off a spur on the ring fused down 3a for a boiler.

Thanks

If the original spur is fused (where it joins the ring) you can add as many spurs from that spur as you like, because it's impossible to overload it, otherwise, no.

Scenario 1

Ok, thinking out of the box but also dont wanna give bad advice, say original spurred socket is 1 gang then its not really going to overload the cable assuming that its done in 2.5mm. The maximum load is going to be 13amps at socket + 3 amp fcu for boiler=16amps.

The only problem I can foresee is if somebody else later did another addtion but really then that would be their fault.

Scenario 2

If socket is 2g then what options would the customer accept?

a. Do they need socket at all? Remove socket, crimp extra cable and take to boiler and affix blanking plate

b. Change backbox to dual accessory box with a fcu and 1g socket. Although limited to what style of accessory you can fit(normally white plastic) and you will probalby have some damage to decoration.

Probably lots of other options as well

Hi RS thanks for the reply. The spur is funnily enough a single socket so I was also thinking along the lines of your scenerio 1 but the regs would not allow this would they. Im with you on it not being possible to overload it as 13 plus 3 is 16 less than the 2.5 can take but as its a spur off a spur regs dont allow this ??

cheers again for replying

The only way the regs will allow is to fuse the original spur (by connecting an FCU in to the ring) to ensure that no part of the circuit can be overloaded.
