Probably fitted by aliens .

So, Vauxhall Combo van , diesel.  Under each seat is a mysterious cover , I remove cover and theres a mechanical spring loaded button arrangement with a red button and a yellow one .  Press one and the other pops out .  Theres what seems to be a non electric cable leading from this to the seat belt clamps  .

Anyone know what it is ?

Phil D     Pretty sure it wasn't fitted by aliens  ...looks factory fitted to me . :C Best to humour him .

It sounds like it's more than likely going to be the Deke mobile's (007) ejector seat..... just be careful of that button under the gear lever knob ;)
Ah!  The Apprentice Ejector !!

Kerch :  I already ferked , pressed the buttons ...red.... yellow ... etc   don't know  which way th :C ey should be set now

Nothing in the handbook about them .

The chippy has same model , I could check his out I 'spose.

It's odd that you should mention this, as I was driving into work this morning and a label on the back of a van stated 'that this vans speed is continually monitored' which made we wonder what happens when it's sold? Is there any requirement to stop the gps connection?? Clearly not! :C

that is very interesting because if you think about it anything that monitors speed, must also be able to monitor location and afaik its definately illegal to track someone without their permission, unless you are the police or government etc

I would say there is, apart from it costing £400ish/year there is the poor blokes privacy to worry about.

I'd assume that tracking would be part of your Contract of Employment , as you say , a privacy issue.

We asked a plumber on a job if he'd like to do a minor plumbing thing for us at another job , he said no, I can't drive the van there because of the tracker .  It was the first time I'd heard of them , he said they had four vans , tracked at the office , mainly for boiler breakdowns  & bursts  they can see the nearest van .

A bit Big Brothery though .

2 of my mate's have work's vans and I don't know about trackers, but they are told they must not use them outside work hours, one is a delivery driver for a tyre company and if he gets held up and is going to be out later than a certain time he has to phone someone and tell them why he isn't at home,so I suppose that one could have a tracker,I believe some insurance companies give a discount if the company vans aren't used out of hours for staff personal use.

yeah, they say it's about customer complaints, saying we didn't turn up when we did, etc.

We know it's about the micromanagement of 2 & a1/2 employees (2 full time 2 part time).

we used to get "why didn't you go down this road - it would have been quicker", but management has taken it eye off the ball recently.

We also dump the vans on an estates and use the bus or swap vans on quiet days just to mess with them. :D

we are allowed to use the vans outside work hours though...
