... Guys...

...Are any of you getting your telephone and Broadband service from the Post office?

I am looking on obtaining some feedback, as I am looking at changing over to them.

All input is appreciated.

Admin.

There is an unlimited option there (Broadband extra, along with the telephone) low and behold - subject to a fair usage policy.

Doesn't say what the usage limit is, just that if they think you are using too much, they will contact you and ask you to use less.

It does mention that you will get 50MB of storage (for your own websites).

It is not very clear IMHO.

I did the online chat Yesterday with that, and as soon as he said "If you take it out with me now, I am in a position to give you three months free broadband" and I said "I am just looking and wont be rushing into anything" he lost interest in helping/discussing with me. (he took ages to rely, when he did after that).

I even copied and pasted our conversation into word. So; no, I wasn't impressed by that!

Oh, Badger - He told me that to have a static IP address, would cost me a one of fee of

What is the advantage of having a static IP address?
Saves a fortune in fuel mate. ]:)

Actually Steps, that is a good question. What is the advantage of having a static IP address, Badger?

You can always connect from any external location to your own dedicated IP say to monitor your CCTV from anywhere?...

Am I close Badge?

AFAIK there are other ways of doing this!

the main reason im going for static ip as snakehips :slap suggests is due to the dedicated micros cctv dvr :p :^O needing a static ip, plus ill be able to log into the pc and see what you lot are doing at 2am when im in the hotel in october ;)

Most of the plusnet packages can enable a static IP and is freeThe Plusnet stuff is capped BUT they dont kill you they just send you an over bandwith warning for the month and then the following month if you do it again they ask you to upgrade accounts

Their fair use is fair to be honest

And from memory if you do a lot of stuff between 12am to 6am it doesnt come out of your bandwidth and / or isnt limited (cant remember)

All i can say is i have 2 accounts with them and both accounts get hammered and i never have a problem

Some other reasons for static ips - Running your own mailserver (SMTP inbound) - VPN (virtual private network) implementations require one or both sides of the VPN to have a static IP address -If you are connecting to your company network and need access through their firewall sometimes this needs a static ip assigned

You can get round some static ip problems with DDNS (Dynamic DNS) which uses a third party (I could explain but its not a nice way to do it and i personally dont like it and have had trouble with it in the past)
another reason to have static ip address not ddns/dynmic ip is to view the home cctv system :innocent

Ah; OK, thanks Guys.

I thought it was like a Dedicated server whereby you could name your server(s) only; on this occasion, I could name my IP Address. :)

Not worth me getting one then.

Thanks Canoeboy, I know you do a lot of internet stuff (legal stuff ]:) )

So you are happy with it, I am sure I would be too. :)

Any idea of the monthly usage limit? There are only two broadband options on there, the first being 5GB bandwidth per month.

The second, being the option that I would go for is the "Extra Broadband", with unlimited broadband (subject to their fair usage policy).

The rep did ask if I do a lot of downloading or use iPlayer.

I know that iPlayer uses a heck of a lot of bandwidth.
