May have been more charitable IF:

1. I advertised as 24hr / callout (which I do not!)

2. If hadn`t had drinkies I may have gone for it - but didn`t sound like my ususal customer, if you know what I mean?

Shame. I could have drove you there and had a look with you, if you hadn't had too many. :| I could do with some call out experience. :p

Would i?

Don't think so,

i would have been all for it, after all, its all experience. :)

:(OOps.

Then I apologise mrs.

I`m not used to people being excited at the prospect of a callout in the wee hours of sunday morning.

If my phone rings at that time, I hope it`s a wrong number. Otherwise, its likely to bad news r.e the family.

I could not do that to ANYONE else.

No need to apologise Mart.

Surely if your gonna get paid for it then its worth getting excited? unless your rich i suppose.

I have to get up at night and I don't get paid anymore for it! Not sure i'd find it that exciting even if I was getting paid more!

My boys always carry a Spare RCD.Don
Indeed so DON..

however I only keep a minimum of dead stock sitting around waiting to be converted...

I keep a few of the basic common bits, Sockets, Spurs, lamp holder, J/boxes etc..

BUT RCDS can be an expensive bit of "dead materials".

RCD single socket

RCD double socket

RCD Fused spur.

each of the above in plastic & metal clad!

RCD fusebox DIN rail mount

RCBO's ratings??? 6,16,20,32.

you could be talking 10 or 15 items to cover your possible call-outs? say approx

Couldn't you 'get away' with just a RCD fusebox DIN rail mount?

You could always replace an RCD socket with a normal socket or even put a plastic socket on a metal clad back box. Even if you had a few spare MCB's and used these instead of a faulty RCBO for a day or two until you could get the correct parts?

Or don't I understand?

Technically you can do whatever you want.. (as long as its safe)

BUT

If the customer wont pay for your time modifying their wiring arrangements..

when all they want is a single faulty item replaced

e.g. Fused Spur with built in RCD - VS- re arrange fusebox to install RCD

it is a BUSINESS not a CHARITY that you are running!!!!

You could always replace an RCD socket with a normal socket or even put a plastic socket on a metal clad back box.
If a metal clad socket has been installed to provide additional mechanical protection in a garage/workshop enviromnet...

fitting a plastic item my leave risk of physical damage to that plastic fitting!

Even if you had a few spare MCB's and used these instead of a faulty RCBO for a day or two until you could get the correct parts?

Which is the point I said at the start .. carry a few basic essential get you working bits..

then go back latter.. rather than trying to carry EVERYTHING to solve every problem on first visit!!

If you are trying to carry EVERY RCD type to do first time fix..

It can be very expensive option!!

Or looking at my call out last night..

customer rang 9:00pm.. Yesterday

By 10:30pm.. I'm back home after visit to site, temp fix, freezer back on.

By 1:30pm today.. Job all done, new RCD fused spur fitted tested all OK!!!

back home.. cash in back pocket!!!

eat me Sunday roast!!! :D :D:D and a glass of Guiness Drink!!

Note:-

Brand new Y-Pages customer... chuffed to bits I turned out after 9:00 on Saturday!! (build the customer base for latter additional work!)

:) ;)
