If testing a lighting circuit with downlighters with transformers fitted how do you guys completet the tests. Do you disconnect all the transformers, or limit your tests in some way? What do you put on your certs if you do limit your testing. I ask cause I'm thinking of doing my 2391 and I'm sure it'll crop up somewhere.

L/N to CPC for IR testing.

Or you could disconnect one side of each transformer.

Any limitations, should be duly noted (and why).

On an exsisting installation you are allowed to do an IR test with L/N to CPC just has The Godfather said.

This could be because there are far too many lights to practicably disconnect, or the distruption caused to loss of work time may be financially restraining on your testing.

If you are installing the wiring normal practice is to test during first fix without any electrical componants liable to damage fitted.

I write loads of stuff on my certificates, just like most of my replies to posts

:^O

As G-H says, on a PIR I have a standard limitation which reads, "Live/Live IR testing carried out only where disruption is justified". I would then only do Live/Live (i.e. Live/Neutral on a single phase installation) on socket outlet circuits (where everything can be unplugged) or where I get a low Live/Earth reading and I want to investigate further.

On a new installation, timing is of the essence, do an IR test before you connect the transformers (use connector strip instead of switches if need be) and write the result in your notebook, when you do the rest of your testing, transfer the value.

Thanks for the replies, I'm still getting to grips with what I can and need to write on mwc and eic's especially comments on existing installation and limitations of testing

is there a reg or is a a myth that in the 17th there is a reg that says that every transformer must have a means of isolation to aid testing?
