Don't you just love them . ?

This guy is like a superhero who strikes at night , when daylight comes his work is done .

No its not Kerch .

He is .....Apostrophe Man !!!!!!

A Radio4  interviewer joined him on a couple of missions ,  the guy spots a business or street sign with the wrong use of the apostrophe S .  If it shouldn't be there he matches a piece of plastic to the colour then makes a night time raid and blanks it out .

Or  he will make one the right colour and fit it .  Damages nothing , hurts no one .

Only in Britain .

My mum has a missing apostrophe in her shop name. It is intentional, as there is no way anyone will put it in (most can't even spell it properly/get the name right) and it looks 'odd' on a sign.

Personally I hate the "grammar nazi's", I was fairly well educated but for a long time didn't do much writing, that coupled with a long spell of mental health issue's and my grammar went to pieces. It really winds me up when you get those people who pull you up on every little mistake, it's like they're trying to prove how smart they are, by all means point out errors, but do it in a polite way, common mistakes are the words, were and where or there and their.

Sometimes the misuse of words can be funny, sometimes it can be annoying, but it's important to think before having a go at someone, why have they spelt it wrong or used the wrong word? maybe they are dyslexic, maybe they have dementia or some other illness that affects their ability to use the correct grammar, or maybe they just can't be bothered!

My pet hate is "text speak" it's just not correct in any way shape or form and I refuse to use it, there are recognised ways to abbreviate words but text speak isn't one of them, tbh I think it makes the writer look stupid, either that or it was written by a 3 year old.

phil,

I agree with some of your points.

However, if one is writing a formal quotation for example, or, perhaps an engineering report, which is potentially to be used in court.

Then, in these scenario's, dyslexic or not, one must be correct.

I have a personal hate for the "dumbing down" of grammar, spelling, and written presentation due to the computer & texting era.

I do use text speak, in text messages, it's a hang over for me from the old character limit.

However, I do try to write a text message with the correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Another issue is predictive text on devices which is not as predictive as it should be!

I hate that too!!!

Isn't 'tbh' text speak?

Oh the irony.

I'm just looking over a quote from a supposedly professional company and the whole thing is full of spelling mistakes and errors. I would instantly bin it on those grounds alone.

BBW anyone?

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

First example of textspeak  I'd say was in the wartime radio show  ITMA  ..Stepps will remember it.

Even the title was textspeak.

Oh its late ....TTFN  .  :innocent

TBH is not txt spk but an abbreviation of sorts that is linked to small ad's that used to appear in newspapers and things like loot where you'd pay by the word for advertising goods or services.

BBW anyone?
When would you ever use TBH in a small add,? :C

FSH , BNIB, NOS,

but TBH,,,,,,?????

When I said text speak maybe I should have been clearer, I actually meant things like "cud and ov" and such like, when I was a lad "cud" was something a cow chewed and "ov" was spelt "of". it's everywhere, I was in the pub yesterday afternoon and got talking to 2 young lads, at the end as they were leaving one shook my hand, " well nice conv bruv, catch ya later", what the hell was that all about?

Oh god I'm too old for all this.
