can't remember if I've banged on about rate of change of the weather? The planet changes all the time, we know that and it is generally very slow, but mankinds current influence is to change it faster than the world can cope with, or more importantly than our current population locations can cope with or many animal species. Give it 100 years and things may have resolved to a different 'norm' but that 'norm' could be very bad for mankind. The planet will survive.

as for flooding London, paddler, that's very bad, it means more of the idiots will buy house in Devon/ Cornwall, and of course we will all end up footing the bill!

just to balance things out a bit a sceptics view.

now do a search in all the scientists that have concluded climate change is man-made, or is responsible for an unusally high rate of change Essex - even Margaret Thathcher believed FFS.

The whole argument has been derailed somwhat by the evangelical types, which doesn't help, but whereas 20 years ago there were many doubters, they are certainly in a minority now. Whether you believe CO2 is the issue or not, I am also of the school of thought that we have only 1 planet and should therefore look after it better than we currently do, you wouldn't fill your house with pollutants, why do this to the planet. One example below:-

CO2 is a fairly trivial issue anyway, the 'catastophy' scenario is actually based on releasing trapped methane (4 times more powerful than CO2 as a warming gas) in areas like Siberia in the permafrost, and deep within the sediments in the seas and oceans. Warming of the polar regions could cause the release of methane and lead to run away climate warming that will make CO2 look like a childs tea party. Changes to farming practices aren't helpful ie more cattle farming which usually goes with deforestation. The biggest single releaser of methane oddly enough being termites, so we could exterminate the worlds termite population
