Just though i would see what a few others thought...

A customer wants control for four 3kW convector heaters in a rarely used building. Heaters are fed through a contactor. Problems in the past with things getting left on and frost damage.

I was thinking along the lines of time lag switch set at around a hour, with a frost stat wired in parallel.

Any ideas? Any problems with this?

cheers

You could just rely on the frost stat , if its freezing the heaters will be on ,which is what you want. I wonder if convectors are the best choice for coming on in an unoccupied building , someone could have piled paper or something against them in the summer. Perhaps tubular heaters may be safer.

I would agree just rely on a frost stat, its the most logical answer to the problem.

The building in question is a changing room, so they want to be able to turn them on for a brief while to warm the place up.

I didnt think it was a brilliant idea having convectors come on when unoccupied but they are existing heaters. There is a frost stat in place at the moment but was never wired properly.

Ahh I see what your asking now.

Well the heaters are exsisting not a lot you can do about that, but they are as per manufactures purpose fit for use?

I see no problem in having the frost stat and a seperate timer overide to provide heating when required.

( I have had a few Vodkas so may be brain damaged by now)

But I think I am right.
