methinks would be TNS,

the DNO just loops into the cut out with the earth for a connection point.

if you are unsure do a loop test across L-N and L-E, should be identical if TNCS.

It has the look of a DIY PME ( sorry TNCS) to me . Surely Manweb don't do their PME s like that do they ?

Oooops sorry , Norweb, eh, thought it said Manweb.

Never seen it done like this b4.

so everyone thinking its tns??

or should i phone to check

Its definately a TNS and a bad makeshift one at that

Phone United Utilities on this number 0161 9199419 they cover the Blackburn area and ask for a cut out change, you will have to provide a contact number and they will sort it out for you, replacing it with a new cut out, new fuse and a sound earth.

Normally takes them 3 weeks or so to get it done but will give you a date over the phone.

Cheers for that, only prob is i will be complete on the re-wire in a week and tenent moving in week after..

Landlord will require the cert before they move in, if they change the lot my results will all be out??

Not really much difference I always record on my EIC that a cutout change has been ordered, and put the date on the cert.

You can only test on what is there on completion, any change in figures would be minor and not worth too much worry.

its TNS. seen it loads of times round here - since DNO have to make sure neutral is well earthed at regular points for PME, the often link neutral to the sheath at the head

seen similar at a job a few weeks ago where NEDL were putting a new supply into building. cable in street was PILC being joined to straight con. they connected neutrals together, and also looped this to lead sheath, then joined phase and sealed up

BUT, it is also possible that its TNS with no connection to neutral in head - may just be that head is designed for split con, and with it being a PILC cable, they have earthed it and taken cable from clamp into head and to a seperate block from neutral

I have seen loads of these in my area andy, its quite common.

For some time TNS supplies that have had a poor earth have been butchered by local builders "electricians".

You should never remove any of the suppliers cable to expose the lead "sheath" and then use a standard earth clamp to satisfy an earth.

Which is what from the pictures supplied shows to have been done.

No DNO would do this kind of work.

Most of the supplies around Blackburn are underground, and well over their use by date.

you rarely need to remove the outer steel wrapping to get to the lead, the steel is normally stripped back far enough to allow a clamp to be attached. although 951's are mostly used
