This is a job I visited a few weeks ago for a mate who is having his kitchen refurbed, the builder got in his own sparks & my mate was a tad concerned with some of the work he saw....things like socket & spur directly behind where the hob was going, so he asked if I could take a look.

I asked if he'd had any certs or part P notification......No......what a surprise.

A quick Zs on the kitchen sockets gave a vey nice 6.39ohms on a TNS system, I test Ze & get 27.3ohms.......call SSE stating loss of suppliers earth & 4 hours later some bod comes out (i had to leave before he arrived)& tells the customer that I know F all or my meter must be faulty as he gets a brilliant 0.20ohms. I know what he'd done as I also tested L/N only and also got 0.20ohms.

The customer all so has a bust up with the builder & gets the spark back to rectify all the faults I'd picked up on the quick visual.

Unfortunately he left his work on show & the customer took some photos to show me............ :slap

So I'm back there today to rectify this other sparks lash up & first thing I ask, "any testing/certs/part P?"...........NO

Straight on to a Ze & it's still at 27.0ohms, back on to SSE a time served fella comes out & tests/confirms my findings (also finds the cutout has welded in due to heat), we go next door.....oh look no MEC on the supply loop out sheath & some twonk has a go at a diy pme.

2 Hours later the jointers are out and new cutout + earth now reinstated, they get me to undertake Ze........0.47ohms that'll do nicely.

And now I'm going to put up some pictures of the shite work by this other spark & quite frankly who ever did the work should find a new line of employment...

Todays visit post the other spark moving socket & spur:

All the crimps were poor, I dont think a ratchet crip tool had been used. this neutral is loose & took no effort to come ou.

See anything wrong with this spur on the ring main supplying a socket below work top? at least it explained the lack of end to end continuity.

What happened to joints being enclosed & must have been the same method to the accessories before they were moved to the newlocation.
