I have a customer with a large halogen luminaire.
It has a large toroidal transformer in it. The luminaire doesn't work anymore, and when I measured the voltage at one of the lamps it was only 7v, then 1v a bit later on. Some of the lamps in it are new, and I tested them on another lamp of the same type and it worked.
I think the transformer is knackered. Can anyone suggest any other tests to do, to work out where the fault lies (transformer or not) and if I want to put another transformer in, is there any reason why I can't put an electronic transformer in instead of the big heavy lump that's there now?
Thanks.
