I ordered 3x Trac Uniflood Mini 70W metal halide flood light units this week. It's for a carpet showroom, so MHs were needed for the colour rendering.

First time I've fitted MHs and chose these because of having a glass front (non yellowing), availability, price and Made In UK.

Was at the showroom yesterday and fitted all the lights into place. Switched on and only one worked. :_|

Triple checked the supply to the non working units - all good:)

Thinking that maybe it could be the lamps, I swapped all the lamps into the working unit to test. All lamps working fine. :_|

Brought the units back down to ground level and put a lead & plug on them. Still no joy.

Without taking anything apart I checked each unit for any obvious faults like loose connections. Nothing obvious.

So, it would appear the 'gear' is faulty. X(

For those of you with more experience of MH lighting, does this seem likely from the above description?

A failure rate of 2 out of 3 seems rather horrific!

Your input appreciated.

I`ve fitted a few of these units; if they`re the TLC ones (I think they`re TRAC).

I`ve had one fault; which was down to gear tray issues :(

Two out of three is unreasonably high, IMO.

It has been suggested before, you can send a letter to suppliers head office, requesting partial recompense for your re-visitation to site, as the equipment supplied was faulty, not just an odd item; but the majority of the light fittings!

May not work - but worth a go????

Trac kit is usually OK IME, value for money stuff I think you'd call it.
