Currently with Virgin & to be honest the service has been ok until recently where we are getting regular drop outs. So today Mrs107 takes a call from Sky who offer the world.

So what are (those who have or are on Sky broad band) your reviews of Sky?

Now I'm not overly bothered about changing as Sky fella said "we guarantee a minimum 34.9Meg"........yeh great the slowest (unless I get the occasional drop out) I get from Virgin is 50Meg.

Just wondered what others thought of Sky

I have sky and it's been ok, don't do much in streaming or the like general browsing etc occasional download, but to fair I'm not really home much these days as working away mon-fri. We live out in the rural outbacks so speeds are not what they should be averaging 16-20mbps :C  reasonably happy as you can be with anything Sky - generally pee'd at how they are constantly putting up their prices to fund the new offers to new customers.

Is Virgin the only full fibre optic ?    Speed sounds good .   Perhaps just short term problems , who knows .?    I didn't go with Virgin because of the constant badgering to have telephone & TV deals  that I don't want.   I have about 300 channels now and watch about 6 of them .

BT Broadband seems to do what it says on the tin.

Okay, is Sky going to connect a NEW cable from your house to the exchange?  if not, don't expect any change in speed.

I have yet to find a broadband router that does not need to be re booted at least once a week because it has crashed. Same goes for a Sky satellte tv box. In fact same goes for just about everything. Hell even my android phone needs a full power off reset once in a while as it crashes and can't make or receive calls.

just get used to it. Anything with a computer in needs a periodic re boot.

IMHO the "test" of a broadband supplier is how they respond when you report a fault. From that point of view do not ever try talk talk. BT are infinitely better in that respect.

Remember many providers are only 'renting' the use of the BT network so realistically Bt themselves should be the best as they'll save themselves the biggest range. It just the customer services side of things with BT that I detest, absolutely the worst company to deal with.

Well you clearly have never tried to get a fault fixed with Talk Talk.

well so far with a phone line fault at my grandma's were now 10 months in and over 15 'engineers' and still no-one has been able to identify the fault and fix it... they have found other various issues but calls still randomly get dropped

NFW Sky are connecting a new cable to the exchange it's all BT's gear anyhow.

Virgin media have all their own infrastructure courtesy of BT and also provide ADSL over BT's network.

Both companies are a waste of time IMO.

The test of a good provider http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ ?

FWIW the macbook has been constantly running for 49 hrs between sleeps.  ;)
