In an effort to reduce the risk of fire I decided to replace the lamps in my bedhead cupboards with LED. The lampholders are SES and take standard oven lamps. Quite a bit of heat is generated and not a lot of air circulates. I managed to find LED lamps on eBay. But they are not E14 cap; more like E13. Whatever size they are they do not fit. My initial proposal was to wrap the thread in cooking foil, avoiding contact with +terminal in the base of the fitting. A sparky of my acquaintance loudly said 'NO'. Does anyone have any other solution, other than to return the lamps and continue the search?

What size does it say on the lamp itself?

When you say it doesn't fit.. do you actually mean it screwed in but the lamp didn't work?

It could just be that the contacts in the fittings have lost a bit of springy-ness.. so not touching the lamp correctly?

I assume by oven lamps you mean pygmy lamps?

SES pygmy LEDs are easy enough to find without faffing around with ebay..

The threads on the cap didn't engage at all. The eBay listing states E14. The Lampholder is situated in the angle between the top of the cupboard and the fascia; clearance is just enough for a pygmy oven lamp - but Screwfix offering might fit, just. I shall try it and report back. So thanks in advance.

E14 is Small Edison Screw but E12 does exist but is rather rare. (Other sizes are E5, E10, E27 and E40 and the very obscure E11, E17, E26, E29, E39!)

That Screwfix offering of the Philips pygmy lamp has been fitted. It is perfect for my purposes. Many thanks.
My only question is why my search on Google failed to throw up this item.

My only question is why my search on Google failed to throw up this item.

Reality is that google cannot search every product listing on every potential suppliers product catalogue.. And even when it is able to find an item, it may not have been within the first few listing so you can got bored scrolling through the endless incorrect search results, so you don't see it!

From my personal experience most search engine results tend to return pages and pages of incorrect, unsuitable items that do not match what I am actually looking for.. As they often try to be too clever and list "similar" things that I may be interested in, when it fails to find the actual item in your search description!

And a key rule to remember is that most internet search engines are not intelligent or clever... Just very fast & stupid at creating lists of things, some of which are just un-related paid-for adverts to be nearer the top of any list.. It is the person who typed in the search request that is intelligent and clever.. they are the ones who need to be able to filter out the 90%+ of unsuitable results returned.

If looking for a specific product, it can be best to go onto a manufacturers or suppliers website that you know may stock the type of item you want and do a local search using their own site search option.

Glad the Philips lamp works and thanks for the feedback.
