Which Meter Is Best?

Well I will say Fluke but only because I had a bad experience with an early MFT. They would not do anything about it either so there customer service to me is not great.

People will only say what they have already spent their hard earned on. We bought a cheapo multi tester a last year, a Ideal Suretest & it is smaller, lighter and performs just as well if not better than the Fluke, Megger , Kewtech & Robin testers, all of which i have had the misfortune to blow up.

Well I have to say that I prefer Megger, I have used all sorts of different makes of test equipment in the past,,, however having tried out a Fluke MFT I couldn't get on with it.

The one and only time that I've had the misfortune to have to return my MFT for repair I found the service to be excellent

Megger is the choice of the 5 week wonder who doesn't actually know how to use a meter,

its what they used at college and what the tutor was on commission to sell.

Megger is living on a name, just like alot of modern manufacturers,

Personally I'd always buy afluke over a megger,

If I was buying a meter tomorrow I'd buy neither,

I'd buy an amprobe/robin.

Oh, ATM I'm using an HT Italia, cracking meter if you know how to actually use a meter and not simply test by memorising where the dial goes.

Well , as you don't actually say what it is for, everyone seems to assume it is an MFT.

So for me it is a Robin [as it came at the right time and the right money] it has never let me down.

As for other 'meters'

Fluke 103 Utilities meter RMS

Clamp ons......Alphatek   and some others....it is chucking it down and I aint going out to the van to look....I'll check tomorrow

Wheatstone Bridge...........MIL STD Megger...............cannot remember last time I used it [prob ebay it]

TDR..........ex BT so no idea as to make

On Supply TDR................BICCOTEST with mains blocking filter

after a considerable number of years in the job , for me anyway,  ' its Horses for courses'..........................depending how much the horse cost! :coat

not always, i have used a few different makes in the past, including a fluke for about 3 years. whilst i liked it (and would use one again), i prefer megger

my voltage tester & multimeter are both fluke

That's great, I like the idea of a cheaper MFT that is cheaper but still 'does what it says on the tin' but will also last!! I have used both megger and fluke before and i felt that the megger was more user friendly and felt a bit more solid in your hands.

I am guessing you mean an multifunction installation tester.

I am a Fluke fan, though I am currently looking for a few Megger meters, & will ASAP buy a Megger DLRO, if I can find one at the right price.

I also have an AVO9 on the van.

Your choice of meter, depends on what you want it for, what you want to achieve, how you will use it, what you understand, & the price.

Hmmmmmm........I have an AVO pan climactic 8! On the van........got it from Noah

I dont know which is best, I have a megger and on the whole generally happy with it, could be happier but that could be addressed with a newer one.  I have found meggers after sales excellent as long as its within the 3 year warranty.  If I got a fluke really cheap tomorrow I wouldnt be moaning.

I also have a socket and see loop tester and really like it.  

Was there a problem on here with a member and putting a fluke between phases, cant remember the outcome now?
