Hi, I need advice regarding them "magic eyes" used to control sat boxes. I realise this is not really an "electrical" topic, however I would appreciate any advice! I went to a friends house earlier to install 15m of coax (not sat grade) to another tv. Connected everything together. Sky pic on 2nd TV but unable to control box via magic eye. Enabled 9v in sky hidden controls, Led illuminates on magic eye, but still nothing. Connected Magic eye directly to box and it works fine. Tested output at Sky box 2nd RF output, reading 8.75V. re-connected and tested other end, and still 8.75V. Replaced magic eye. Same problem persists. The magic eye ive used is a cheep one and not a Sky branded one! Cheers guys. J

I've got the same problem,, but I tink that the coax has had it as the signal quality is quite poor..

Sometimes you can get a problem with reflected IR signals interfeering with the direct signal,, I had this problem with a college project (white lab) ; worktop and walls were reflecting the signal.. Anywhere else and it worked perfectly..

Thanks for the reply Nozspark, Do you think buying a decent magic eye would cure this problem or do they all pretty much contain the same inside? I dont think cable is the issue as 15m with no joints is not that much! Cheers. J

I would replace cable to start, make sure ends are on correctly surely that will be cheaper than buying another magic eye.
