Hi, I have recently built an out building and had it boarded and plastered, I was trying to be clever by wiring it before it was boarded. I have run standard 3 core cable from a power point to where I want a light switch, and then another length of standard 3 core cable from where I want the switch to where I want the light fitting. I was going to put a plug on the end and plug it into the power point (obviously supplying me with the power) but Im not too sure how to wire the light and switch in!! - Is there a way I can do this based on the wiring i have already put in??? Many thanks. Darren. ;)

You will need to use the Neutral conductor from the cable going to the switch as the "Switched Live" return back to the light fitting!

Mark the conductor appropriately with Brown sleeving or Brown Tape! :D ;)

dead easy Darren

put plug on end of cable at power point, dont plug it in just yet!

at switch position strip both cables, remember which goes on to the light

join earth conductors in the earth tag of backbox or light switch depending on fitting.

join both neutral/blue conductors together, choc-bloc will do and tuck away in backbox

put the brown coming from the plug into the common on the light switch

put the brown going to the light into the L1 position

at the light

connect brown to line/live

connect blue to neutral

connect earth to earth terminal

job done

Just got back in from "Dads Taxi service"...

(guides & orchestra tonight! :( )

Good job Betty answered that...

cuz I had miss-read the first post! :(

thought you said from plug to light then to switch!

Not from plug to switch to light!:DBlushing

So ignore my earlier post...! DOH! :_| :p

Just an extra point though....

you could fit a fused spur next to your socket..

save using a plug & free up a spare socket ??? ;)
