hello just wondered what vans you all use for work!!!

and what u would rate them out of 10?

i am looking for a small van to replace old one biut 05 06 plate..

any idelas on were to get some good ones from

currently a renault trafic LL29 2.0 dci - 7/10 - quite a good load space in the rear, quite good on fuel(i can get 30mpg average around town even with the van fully loaded) but the turning circle is woeful and the cab is too car like very little stowage compared to other vans.

previously a transit mwb/medium roof RWD petrol/lpg(2.3 145bhp) - 6/10 - good sized load space in the rear, tbh shocking on fuel(averaged about 10mpg on gas regardless of driving style or conditions and about 18mpg on petrol, this did vary though depending on how you drive.), excellent to drive and a very good turning circle(2m or so smaller than the renaults!) and the cabin had a reasonable amount of stowage, the newer transits have far more stowage and a better laid out cab.

Peugeot Expert (new shape), particularly like the size of it, not as big as some but holds everything I need, and its a really good vehicle to drive

8/10

i do like the look of the trfics aspecialy the sport.

but the best looking van out there has to be the transpoter sportline even tho its 30 grand. and does 160mph lol u will have no toold left they would have all flung out the back door at that speed

the sport has very little over the normal ones from what i've seen(looking at them side by side), it seems to be trim differences only(alloys, chrome rings on speedo and that sort of thing). might go and look on the renault site.

looking now and apart from having the option of a more powerful engine(150 vs 115) its things like fogs, alloys, painted bumpers, drivers armrest and a trip computer. but for some reason the sport loses the 270 degree opening doors and only has 180 degree doors. other than the option of the 150bhp engine i don't think i would ever consider the sport myself.

I have an 03 Citroen Dispatch.

I like:

two side doors

two passenger seats

HDi engine (110PS)

32mpg generally (38 motorway @ 90 & roof rack)

80 litre tank

will go into a standard garage door with mirrors folded in (holiday storage)

smaller footprint on the road than my Rover 800!

nice wide opening front doors.

rubber flooring inside cab

Cons:

I've had a broken road spring - PSA cars are very prone to this (they use cheap crap springs)

gearchange poor, but hey-ho

standard security

poor door locks (keep them well lubed to prevent problems)

nowt else really

Used to have a Renault Traffic , thought it was excellent . Don't need one so big these days so have had three Ford Escorts over the last 16 years . Present one is diesel ,does 1000 miles per gall !!! Even at 90000 miles on the clock. Does the job , rugged, don't need all the fancy carp TBH . In 90000 mls ,a bit of welding underneath and a new alternator.

Deke

At work we have Peugeot 206 van - too small for anything other than your tools, cant even get a 6' fitting in it as it has a bulkhead.

Transit - 03 model. great van loads of room etc

then we have 2 vauxhall combis. they are great little vans onbly 1300 Diesels I think but versatile as they have a bench seat and side doors both sides.

Out of them all I like the vauxhalls but if I was going to buy a van and have my own business I really like the Peugeot Expert/Citroen Despatch/Fiat Scudo.

I dont drive a van for a living anymore BUT I have had alot of van driving experience after doing everying from courier to planned routes.

It depends totally on what you want from a van, do you plan to spend time on racking it properly ? Do you want it to carry alot of weight, what kind of size loads ? what kind of distances are you planning (mainly Local or regular Long distances) sounds silly I know but Ive done both , by far the best of the larger vans I have driven was the Older shape Merc Sprinters , very reliable even when loaded up to the roof every day of the week, I am also a fan of the Vauxhall Vivaro / Renault Traffic of the small vans The Transit Connect or if you want the longer internal length the Vauxhall Astravan, these are of course my own views and everyone will have a differant idea or even a bad experience.

had a transit connect, out grew it now have a VW T5 and absolutely love it. Not had it long enough to give much review but i am very happy with it thus far.

Citreon Dispatch 1.9TD. Great van, 2 side doors, fantastic heater!

Just had it serviced and new cam belt at 137,000 miles. Pulls like a train and plenty of room inside.

Would definately have another.

Citreon Nemo - small, but cheap tax and insurance, low emmisions, park it anywhere, side door, 45mpg.

8/10 - pitifully slow on motorway.

Transit connect SWB with roof rack for ladders.

Pros:

Cheap to run, bullet proof, easy to park, side door, comfy.

Cons:

Bit small sometimes, ladders on roof get a bit noisy above 80mph.

8.5/10
