Ze is the same test procedure as loop testing.

Three wire testers require live, nuetral and earth to be connected via the red, blue and green test leads.

do i set it to HI or no trip? also what hole do i put the green lead into?
You should be able to set it to high because you are testing at mains before any RCD'S. Not sure about which hole though.

hello,I have just got my megger and was trying to do a ze, i cant find any instructions on how to do this.

can any one help.

thanks

paul
Just a thought, when you use the word "Megger" are you talking about a multi-tester ? ( 3 in one) To old pharts like me a "megger" is a 500v insulation tester only . Likewise to "megger" a circuit is carry out an insuation test. I know its confusing. Megger of course is the brand name.

Obviously I have no idea what a 1552 is.

green lead in middle hole, red in bottom of the three in a row, Ze would be performed on the HI function so you only need two leads red and green, the black lead is for the no trip function when doing Zs on circuits protected by RCD.

right, i have the MFT1553.

Ze reading... three lead test. (green-disconnected main earth conductor) (red - live) (black-netural)

'Hi' setting - when there is no rcd

'no trip' setting - with rcd.

isolate board, and test on the live side of the main switch...

so set ho 'HI' if semi enclosed fuses etc and 'no trip' if new ccu with rcd.

red in the bottom

green in middle

black top

is this for both 'hi' and 'no trip'?

thanks

Ze should be measured with the earth probe connected to the main earthing conductor disconnected from the earth bar in the consumer unit, PFC should be measured with it connected - to allow for the higher fault current due to the influence of bonding conductors.

high only needs red and green lead.no trip needs all 3 leads otherwise will trip RCD's
Or, if testing at a socket just connect the supplied lead with a plug on it (looks a bit like a kettle lead) which can be used with Hi or non-trip.
