Trouble is ... this attitude is becoming more prevelant, people are becoming aware that PART P has changed and think that as the economy is bad Electricians are charging too much and will take on work for next to nothing to get the job.
Customer is now saying they want to install it themselves ( probably get the local handyman to do it from the pub cheap ) and wants me to go back and give it a cert as they have read on the internet that Part P has changed & think i'm trying to charge too much !!!
I've already done basic...
Thanks ProDave .... I've revised the work and said i will only do this if i run the cable in Plastic rigid conduit. Customer is going to have a think about it - but i bet the local 'Handyman' will be getting a call now after i've told the customer what is involved with putting it all in. At...
The circuit is going to have 6 double sockets and a switched FCU for a couple of wall lights. A convector heater isolated by a switched FCU at 13A max - The Ring Final CCT would be appropriate for the demand wired in 2.5 T/E ... as i already have a quantity of this Cable to hand.
Yes RCD...
Would polypropylene flex conduit ( coiled plastic round flex ) be a suitable choice - I may be able to get the owner to pay a little extra for this, otherwise he will get a 'general - do whatever for the cash' trade in to do the work. I want to get the job, but do it within the regs.
The owner has lighting circuit T/E clipped direct for outside lighting already and wants to keep costs down, so conduit or SWA will increase the estimate. I'm unable to find anything under 'S&E' in the regs that states this is non compliant clipped direct + RCD will be incoporated.
I've been asked to install a new RFC at a Ground Floor Flat. The Socket outlets for this circuit are going to be in a room at the rear of the property on the other side of the flat from the CU - the owner does not want me to install the cable through the Flat, but wants me to route the cable...
Not wanting to go off topic to much .. but if the smoke and heat detectors on the lower floor are on the down lighting cct and the upper smoke detector on the upper floor lighting cct, then interlinking them hardwired would ensure they all go off in the event of an emergency even though one of...
Many Thanks for the replies here - very useful. I agree - it's up to the owner, if they ask that a property be rewired as is, then it's up to them to contact the local council when they want to rent it out as a student let after i've done the works according to the contract.
I may well use...
I've been asked to rewire a domestic dwelling (I'm Part P certified & have additional insurance to install fire detection equipment within domestic dwellings). The Customer has bought the house and asked me to rewire the entire property and install a heat detetctor in the kitchen and 1 in...
I got my insurance through Zurich, that use Trade Insurance Direct as the broker. I know that Insurance companies will try ANYTHING to get out of paying on a cliam. I think most Electricians must install Smokes & not realise that the basic PLI is'nt enough.
I've read bs5839 part 6 - & I...
I'm after some advice on what Insurance cover other Electricians use when it comes to the install of Smoke and Heat detection equipment in a domestic property. I've been asked to install smokes in a 2 up 2 down semi as part of a re-wire. The owner is looking at renting the place out when it's...
Yes the length of cable enclosed in trunking is 2 METRES. What is the minimum ammount of cable permitted in trunking before factors need to be applied?
