    RCD or the appliance?

And now this! This is the under counter appliance switch for washing machine. That isn't right, is it? Looks wrong. Appliance socket right next to wm waste pipe, too close and too low. Opinions please.  What regs are there for under counter sockets... I only know 30cms from sink.

    RCD or the appliance?

Thanks for that about the smoke detectors, will definitely ask him to put them with the lights.  Better pic?  I wish I knew why the lights are going out too Evans!

    RCD or the appliance?

Dual RCD. Yes same one trips. This photo was taken after drill inserted in downstairs socket tripped.  Exact same trip when vac is plugged into landing socket.  Upstairs socket keeps working but circuit in pic trips and upstairs lights go off. I'll stick with teaching 9 year-olds. At least I'm...

    RCD or the appliance?

'Course I should've plugged in the drill or something else to see if it also tripped with different appliance.  Will try this later.  Yeah, I really don't understand the lights going upstairs but not the socket.  Don't know about RCBO for every circuit or 2 larger RCDs... haven't looked at the...

    RCD or the appliance?

House rewired at considerable cost during last 2 weeks.  Yesterday bloke says it's finished.  Today, I plugged the vacuum into the hallway socket and the downstairs circuit trips (same vacuum cleaner never tripped my old house btw).    Then plugged vacuum into upstairs landing socket and they...

    Domestic rewire - anyone?

Thanks everyone for the tips.  All use AICO so not running away yet.    After adding on smoke detection and everything I'd omitted from the original quote (all the LED downlights, wall lights,  extra appliances) it's looking like 6K plus VAT.    What a voyage of discovery this is.   Some fill...

    Domestic rewire - anyone?

Just had a chat 5 mins ago with a bloke about the smoke alarms and he agrees with you Evans Electric.  My other quote said they are optional if it isn't a newbuild.    I've read some of  (not all!) Approved Document B - vol 1 of the Building Regulations 2010 and hopefully understand a...

    Domestic rewire - anyone?

Hello everyone, Issue is rewire of 70s 3 bed semi which has a concrete ground  floor -  I've been told that means chasing down the walls from the first floor void.  I'm ok with this as the nicest thing about the house is the oak floor the previous owner put down.   MK sockets,  can't recall the...

    EICR - C1 x1 + C2 x2 Please help!

Thanks for all the replies.   Would q like a different house but nothing for miles (kids still at primary and secondary) has same amount of space for the price.  70s houses might be poorly insulated but the rooms and windows are lovely and big.  Completing on the purchase in September and...

    EICR - C1 x1 + C2 x2 Please help!

Thank you for your very sound and useful advice Murdoch, Andy and ProDave.  Yes indeed, the house needs updating and we do have a budget but it's for the  30 yr old flat roof on the back extension which needs doing immediately!   We were planning to live with the 70s kitchen,  Artex etc etc...

    EICR - C1 x1 + C2 x2 Please help!

Hello Everyone, EICR has been done for a house we want to buy.  The seller said he can't remember any electrical work being done during the 25 years he's lived there.  Odd.  Now we know why his memory has (selectively?) failed him...  report is unsatisfactory.  I've been trying to understand...
