Finishing and signing off someone else's work.

Point take Deke, It still wouldn't help him for a part p cert, hands and knees time to BC!!. Still; it takes me back to employing un-qualified people who cant certificate. Maybe the bad experience will spread around and people will start employing reputable sparks instead...

Finishing and signing off someone else's work.

There is a "3 part" EIC where there's a separate signatory for design, construction, and I&T. So without bending any rules whatsoever, you can finish the job and sign the I&T section, and give it to the builder to get the original sparks to sign the design and construction section...

    Rcd protection

Agreed, it would depend on the cable or how it was run run. Should have worded the statement differently.

    Rcd protection

If it is just one socket why not use a socket in with an inbuilt RCD.

    RCD problems,

I've had it a couple of times with N-E crossed in sockets, no probs until RCD attached to circuit.

Several lights in house blowing bulbs continuously

Have visited customer again this evening. Carried out r1 & Rn tests, just to see if there were any abnormal readings. Highest was r1 2.02 with coresponding rn an expected lower reading of 1.78. Voltage was 239. The bulbs were very cheap and nasty, so have fitted mini flouresants to see...

Several lights in house blowing bulbs continuously

There are about 10 lights on the circuit batty, not really overloaded. Every thing is still origional from the rewire in the 70's I will take advise on the quality of the bulbs, as there seems to be a lot of opinion on here that they could be at fault. Thanks for all those with constructive...

Several lights in house blowing bulbs continuously

Sorry for the delay getting back to you I was on football duties with my son. The bulbs are gls. For bulbs to go after a few hours seems a bit unlikely however cheap. They was fine when I was there but blew in evening. I will check the voltage after work hours to get an idea if the voltage...

Several lights in house blowing bulbs continuously

The bulbs are multi pack ones and are relatively cheap, but they are the same ones as the rest of the house that are working fine. I have not carried out the tests yet as it seemed a relatively easy task, in hindsight alarm bells should have rung when there was more than 1 with the fault.

Several lights in house blowing bulbs continuously

Hi Guys, I went to look at house that was blowing bulbs on a couple of the lights (standard pendants). There are 3 that are blowing within a couple of hours of the bulbs being replaced. There is only 1 light circuit in the house and the rest seem fine. The wiring looks to be around 40 years...

Full rewire EIC or PIR as landlords certificate

Yes of course Doc, I like to keep ELECSA busy, if only to feel that I'm getting my moneys worth.

Full rewire EIC or PIR as landlords certificate

Thanks for the replies, it make sense for the EIC to be enough. But lets be honest, something making sense is not always a guarantee of how things are. But I will let the homeowner know that he will be covered. Theoryspark, what would be worst than you picking me up on a PIR , would be if I...

Full rewire EIC or PIR as landlords certificate

Hi guys, I'm after a bit of advice. I am quoting for a full rewire on a house that will be rented out straight after the work is completed. My question is, will the customers be able to use the EIC as the landlords certificate? It will be a brand new rewire and must therefore comply to the...
