    Testing Nightmare

Thanks, will try to. It'll be nice to not have my toolbox with me for once :-) Thanks for this (using a laptop, so just turning it saves my neck!). Extractor was disconnected, as was the shaver socket, but did I disconnected every bulb AND turn off all switches... hmm... ok, you, got me on...

I always thought Customer Consumer Unit, but apparently other options are also available :-) Easiest question yet, they are wanting to sell but we found out they have no completion certificate, so nobody who has a mortgage can buy the place, their insurance is invalid, and if they want us to...

Ohh, sorry. I start getting a bit random when it gets late! All the lights work as you would expect with no anomalies. I wouldn't swear to having tried every light myself, but they have lived in the house for more than 8 years and "have never had a problem"... at least, not until I turned up!

I've not seen any signs of corrosion or damp in the electrics, but thanks for the suggestion, I will keep it in mind. You callin me cuckoo ;-) Again, I'll try a different abbreviation, with no cooker or bird confusions... Yep, defo a good learning exercise, but also driving me nuts and I'm...

Thanks. When I get there next I'll double and triple check for interconnections, then try I/R, but I'm thinking the same, that it needs stripping bit by bit The argument put forward by the current owner is "well it works, so it must be ok"... Agreed, usually live tests after dead tests, but...

Right, you're getting me thinking here (esp. when Andy also questioned the Neutral situation). I'll have to check that there's no interconnection between the two lighting circuits. What is still making me think it's something else though is that it wasn't found at every point on the circuit and...

If only it were that simple - honestly I wish it was. All 3 conductors were disconnected at the CCU. I swapped to measuring R1 + RN and didn't find any problems. So presumably whatever the problem is is something to do with the CPC. If I get a chance I'll get a rough sketch scanned in later.

This definitely comes under the heading of jobs I wish I'd never started... Can someone please for the sake of my sanity tell me where I am being an idiot? Short version - on a lighting circuit, how can R1+R2 = 0.37 to 0.72 ohms with switches on but in places give 16 to 409 ohms with switched...

    Need Help Wiring A Boiler

Cheers guys, very much appreciated. I'll stop looking at wiring diagrams now and getting confused! ProDave - thanks for the clarification on where the volt free bit comes into the whole thing, I'd totally missed that in my confusion.

    Need Help Wiring A Boiler

A plumber has fitted a Grant Vortex Pro External Combi and then run away without fitting a controller to it. The manual asks for a "single channel 230V with voltage free output contacts" The boiler isolation plug has 5 connectors (CH, HW, E, N, L). So to have a Central Heating controller...

    Are Floor Sockets Allowed?

Thanks for the responses guys. The floor sockets are all proper floor sockets with sprung covers. I was asking as I've not come across them in a house before (I used to work in a large office so very used to them in that environment, just not as an electrician). Apart from the obvious of them...

    Are Floor Sockets Allowed?

Looking at a house that has floor sockets installed in a few rooms (tiled kitchen floor, living room and hobby room). Is this allowed in a domestic install at the latest regs? Thanks Wiksey
