I have an electric saw that will run.
It as a single phase three wire motor, when I press the start button it runs but when I take my finger off it stops, it as starting coil fitted.
Can any one please help.
Keith.

it could be the
3. the stop button stuck in or broken,

As Poni suggests this could be a mechanical problem... Not an electrical fault..!

I had a similar issue a few weeks ago...

Where a stop-button had lost is springy-ness and remained partially stuck down to prevent the normal running 'Start" button to operate a motor correctly.

Is this a newly wired item...
Or an old item that has previously worked ok for many months/years?

As Telly Savalas once sang in the 70s , A picture paints a thousand words !!!
Some pictures would help .
Bell across stop contact , this should be N.C contact .
Check the hold on contact on contactor, this should be N.O and closes when the start button is pressed .
Sounds like its not holding the contactor in , once the start button is released .As Poni mentioned above .
