Well I won't be shelling out for any courses on ruddy extractor fans that's for sure. Just say NO!
Excellent point.I guess really you could say the whole thing sucks.
Useless fact: You can have any size extractor fan in a bathroom, but it will only be as good as the air that can get in to replace it. Ideally there should be 1/2 inch gap under the door. (But it is rarely mentioned)

Good question!?Does this apply to like for like replacements/ maintenance repairs.

I wouldn't think so.Does this apply to like for like replacements/ maintenance repairs.
Like everything else these days, it could only be enforced by BC on new builds, or when the rose fertilizer hits the fan, when no doubt, the ' governing bodies' will make a big song and dance about it.How is this ever going to be enforceable
If everybody shys away from installing fans is it just counter productive legislation that does the opposite of what was intended
I'm passed caring. I'm just going to tell customers I no longer install fans as there's too much paperwork involved.Does this apply to like for like replacements/ maintenance repairs.
Well I will still be working on them. Only the other day looked at my partners mums tweaked the timer on the overrun.I'm passed caring. I'm just going to tell customers I no longer install fans as there's too much paperwork involved.
BC don't care as I've never had any checks carried out on any of the work I've notified.
I know that's supposed to be the point of the schemes but the most 1 customer has had was a quick 2 minutes phone call to ask were they satisfied. No technical check up that I actually carried out any testing.
It does make you wonder if those of us who pay to be in the schemes are the actual mugs and those that don't are the ones making the money.
I know plenty of electricians who are not scheme members who carry out notifiable work but never notify anyone.
Alot don't even issue any certs so until the customer sells its never questioned and even then they pay £40 and take out indemnity insurance so they don't have to pay out even if it goes tit's up.
The system doesn't work. Until we have something with the same level of legal backing like Gas Safe ( and even that isn't perfect I'm led to believe ) and DIY Dave can't buy a consumer unit from B&Q or Screwfix or online without having credentials things won't change.
Either that or manufacturers price units so high to retailers but then discount if a registered installer purchases one.
Wholesalers used to work like that. If you paid cash you got charged retail.
If you had an account with them then you got charged wholesale.
We need to do something or no one is going to want to train to be a sparky.
Monday rant over. Can you tell I've had a bad weekend

That would probably be counter productive as Dave then installs a cheap and nasty one that he’s bought from dodgy Joe.DIY Dave can't buy a consumer unit from B&Q or Screwfix or online without having credentials things won't change.
You mean a Chint unit ?That would probably be counter productive as Dave then installs a cheap and nasty one that he’s bought from dodgy Joe.
Dave! That's highly dangerous! Have you now notified it and also used the correct, calibrated anenometer (no idea how to spell it) to measure the air flow!!!Well I will still be working on them. Only the other day looked at my partners mums tweaked the timer on the overrun.
LOL nope could use a bit of bog paper up against the ventsDave! That's highly dangerous! Have you now notified it and also used the correct, calibrated anenometer (no idea how to spell it) to measure the air flow!!!
