This isn't really a car electrics site, though some members (including myself) may well have dabbled with repairing an alternator.
You can only really check the winding continuity with a multimeter, and check it isn't shorted to the stator frame. You could not diagnose shorting turns. Having said that they are quite substantial wire and in my experience rarely fail.
Why do you think it suspect?
I think they are wire in delta to a six diode bridge rectifier, which is where many problems arise. You can check each diode with your meter.
