    Bond or no bond

First why do we bond? Is it to ensure that any exraneous metalwork liable to introduce a potential, including an earth potential into the installation "equipotential zone" has a common earth reference point? If so, and the internal copper pipework is connected to a polymer incomer, how can...

    Going a bit mad here.

That is the symbol I have seen on wiring diagrams for industrial equipment for many years. The main difference being that for multiway plugs each pin is represented by the "wine glass" and they are otherwise grouped into a socket by an enclosure line. Male pins were just signified by what is...

A bit of my handy work. TP&N board.

You can also get apha cable markers to give you the full alphabet & + - / * and the earth symbol, with a few others that escape me now! Common in electrical control panel building. Paul

Well we actually defrosted it first in a bag in warm water, then heated it up more with the hair dryer!

    A summation supply.

flying, Try to get some load history on the house first. Clamp the tails for a day at least and put a mempry clamp on it. Otherwise try to simulate a realistic full load situation. Then thing seriously about diversity on the supply. DNO's will use about 0.4xflc for a domestic. What is...

    Do 100ma RCD's need replacing with 30mA?

Well in an industrial/commercial environment the installation is supervised by a duty holder, and is covered by statutory legislation - EAWR89. Thus the socket outlets are in control of the duty holder, thus are not for use by ordinary persons, thus do not need to 30mA requirement of the 17th...

    new test

Mark, I have not said you must be registered to do PIR's. You merely have to be competent. Remember HSE have a definition of competence which is well known. As far as PII goes, this is not a legal requirement either, however, if you don't have this then you are sailing alone and would have to...

    whats the difference?

Steps, IF the motor is connected to a servo drive with feedback then the drive will not allow the motor to run in reverse! Trust me I used to work for a servo drive manufacturer ondesign, applications & service! I have to get all my test gear calibrated too as I am the PDH, QS & the...

    new test

Mark, You need to have PII to undertake PIR's. In doing this you are undertaking intangible work, that is you are offering your professional opinion on the condition of the electrical installation and its suitability for continued use. PLI will not cover you for this as you are providing...

    whats the difference?

Steps, Welcome back, hope the honeymoon is not over too soon! Stick with the Fluke buddy! Why do you need an expensive phase rotation tester? My Kew volt probe does this quite well, this I never use my 1653 for this! Just power the motor up and if it goes the wrong way swap the outer 2...

sellers, NOT necessarily, you state the limits of your EIC on the EIC. Replacement of 4 downlighters and replacement of CPD. Thus the EIC is ONLY for the repalcement of the downlighters and the CPD. It does NOT cover any other items in the circuit. Paul

    Do 100ma RCD's need replacing with 30mA?

Well TNS so should be no need for rcd to meet Zs. IIRC no requirement for 100mA RCD in regs for additional protection previously (14th, 15th 16th). With the info we have I don't believe that a correct conclusion can be drawn? Paul

    Do 100ma RCD's need replacing with 30mA?

Fair cop, but the OP states a commercial premises only! Paul

sellers, I would say EIC because you are changing the charateristics of the protective device more than anything else. Paul
