    Just confused-  thought if the design voltage was 40.87A then the overcurrent protective device should be say 45A irrespective of the diversity calculation. If anyone can explain I would be grateful.

    The spark was probably worried that the ambient temperature would affect the current carrying capacity of the cables and it was a sort of spur of the moment thought - why not drill 30 or 40 holes in the top of the CU to cool the cables down sort of thing....
