    What's Your Favorite Electrician Joke?

A bloke goes to the doctor and says, "Every morning I step out my front door and start walking to work and before I get very far I get what feels like an electric shock from the pavement. The doctor asks ,"How often does this happen"? The bloke says, " It can be anything up to three times on the...

Rcd Upgrade Next To Rewireable Fuse Board.

Plastic CUs aren't allowed any more, that's why you can pick them up dirt cheap. A new metal CU with enough ways (and maybe one or two spare ways) is the answer.

    Burglar Alarm Panels

Yes link out any unused zones individually the panel should have links in it if it's new. If it was a fire panel, the chances are you'd be linking out unused zones with resistors or capacitors depending on the age of the panel of course.

    testing a light fitting

If it's class 2 you should NOT be able to read a voltage between 'live' and the fitting casing. If it's class 1 and you have earthed the fitting you should get a reading of 230v approx between 'live' and the fitting casing, but it's not the fitting that's live, it's the 'live' conductor that's...

    Bathroom storage heater problem

AT 230 VOLTS YOUR CURRENT DRAWN WOULD BE 16.4 AMPS. IT'S JUST POSSIBLE THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THE ELEMENT IN THE HEATER, I.E. one part of the element is touching another part of it hence slightly reducing the resistance. It should be at around 17 ohms for operation on a 13 amp fuse (in a fused...

    am2 help guide

The AM 2 is the trade test for 'APPROVED' electricians, FICA is the trade test for ordinary electricians. So. you do the FICA to get your 'run of the mill' sparks card and two years later (approx) you can, if yur employer agrees go and do the AM 2.

Low IR reading on ring main

For Monkey5 and Badger, I see you didn't get a reply to your question so here's the amswer. You divide the 230 volts by the 3.65 megohms and it gives you the value 0.000063 amps. This of course is only when nothing is plugged in and switched on. My advice would have been, do the test with...

    Re: Ring final circuit

Damien, current in a ring circuit is distributed around the ring in both directions. The percentage of current flowing in any direction depends on where in the ring the appliance is plugged in, i.e. if you plug in a 10 amp appliance right in the middle of the ring 5 amps will go one direction...
