Is there any reason/reg why a CU cannot be mounted on its side?

Hahahahahahaha nice to hear you all admit to it cos I did the same and mounted one on its side recently and beat myself up for it!

Now THAT was a decent board.

Used one of these last month and was impressed with it. Wouldn't buy over Hager or the larger Wylex board.

    Limited company and sole trader?

I think it depends on your turnover and how much financial liability you may have for example, if buying thousands in materials each month and you end up going bump, as a sole trader you bear the brunt of it. As a Ltd, you don't. Ltd costs more in professional fees and accounts need certifying...

    Limited company and sole trader?

I went Ltd 2 years ago after a brief stint on my own. I brought in my best mate on a 50/50 share basis. It works really well and as said, we pay ourselves a monthly salary (below the annual tax free sum) and then the rest is dividends as and when we want. The big thing about being limited is...

In your opinion, what's more profitable being independent electrician or employed?

Naturally and completely agree. Not really had it in the last two years where a client has called us with that situation. To be honest, in that case you work until it's done. Of course, there have been plenty of times when we have worked 'late' but hasn't happened often. Dealing with machinery...

In your opinion, what's more profitable being independent electrician or employed?

No, not entirely. Have a maint contract for a couple of large hotels, industrial clients and also commercial clients. We just manage their expectations as best we can.

In your opinion, what's more profitable being independent electrician or employed?

We manage - 8 till 5 on tools at the latest. No weekends unless called out and certainly no bank hols. Downtime is crucial. Of course, running your own business means that you never switch off and paperwork can takes hours but the key is to be organised and keep on top of things where possible...

    tool totes

My business partner swears by his. I carry a Makita tool pouch which has all my everyday and most used tools in it. I then leave a tool bag on the van which has my more specialist kit in which doesn't get used everyday.

    Anyone looked into EBIS?

Will have a proper look at Sliq. Had a brief browse when I stumbled across it a while back and certainly seems cheap enough. Wonder, is it worth taking the customer support option?

    Wilts taken over...

Why would they? They already own Denmans and others. It is just a paper exercise so the companies will still continue to trade independently.

    Anyone looked into EBIS?

It's not factoring Technician, just a one-stop centre for admin really, quotes/invoices/payment reminders/contacts database etc.

    Anyone looked into EBIS?

Received the new NIC magazine and in it was advertised EBIS. The website is EBIS - Electricians Business Invoicing System. Anyone tried it or indeed use it? Seems like a nice little system to invoice and quote on and to generate sales info etc, but not sure it is worth the money - from
