    NSI Approval

This is such a grey area nowadays, I have several systems on maintenance monitored and the insurance company knows about them and whilst it isn't a blanket x% discount for an alarm type thing, it does get considered on the premium. Simply saying 'NSI Silver alarm system' is somewhat...

    NSI Approval

Pretty much. Is this new build domestic? Can't see there being any issues really, literally nothing non-standard needs doing to comply with PD6662 on most jobs. Only really needs anything thinking about on commercial jobs and even then most would comply 'out of the box' (single entry point, CIE...

    Todays cooker install

It's OK, I'm just here for comedic value.

    Todays cooker install

I don't think you could. Fault current includes overcurrent, and an RCD would do nothing here.

    Todays cooker install

Why? Nothing wrong with it being fed by multiple conductors in parallel.

    NSI Approval

All depends what you want to do exactly. There used to be Alarm Master (expensive) and KISS (cheap) and everything else was poor. Nowadays there are that many choices and directions it's a bit of a minefield. I have mentioned before that I use Quickfile, and while this is primarily...

    gmail ?

Same. I didn't bring up what you do or don't know though. I don't believe I said it was, I just said it was absolutely fine and Outlook wasn't. Because you can? Feel free, if it makes you feel clever and powerful then don't let anyone else stop you. You keep telling me how you own all of...

    NSI Approval

SSAIB is like Stroma, NSI is like how NICEIC used to be. It's all about the paperwork. SSAIB is pretty contractor friendly and will help you through the process. NSI will take your money and really drag you over the coals and make sure all the T's are dotted etc. They are pretty ruthless, but...

    gmail ?

Where? What costs, what limits? There is nothing at all that is stopping him from using Thunderbird. And within that limited list is Thunderbird. OK, and? But why would you use multiple clients? Did I say anyone couldn't use more than one? No, but I have no idea why you have such an...

    gmail ?

Not really, Thunderbird will work. I have used it for the last 20 years without issue. Much better than that heap of garbage Outlook.

    Wiring a doorbell and chime

Maybe? I don't know, I can't see it. It might be one wire going from chime to door, or it might be 2 wires from door and chime to transformer. You might need to test it to find out. If there is a voltage on it when the button is pressed there is a transformer, if not then there perhaps isn't, so...

    Wiring a doorbell and chime

Have a look at what the old wire was connected to. Usually it's wired differently for transformer or battery operation. If there is a transformer it would usually be next to your consumer unit.

    Electrician's pay ?

For some reason I keep recommending CU upgrades instead. Maybe I should just keep my mouth shut and do it like this?

    Electrician's pay ?

Then you get the Thursday afternoon phone call - "I've got a kitchen being delivered Monday and the flooring guy is here Tuesday so can you just ........."

Hopefully @CK-TOOLS @CK Tools are taking note and are digging the old machines out of the back of the workshop as we speak!

    gmail ?

Yeah, pretty sure this is something your end, not a Hotmail/Outlook issue. Combination of outdated/unsupported OS and overly zealous security settings on something somewhere in he middle.
  17. Lurch

    gmail ?

Yes. Pretty sure that was nothing to do with Hotmail, but a combination of your OS/browser and specific link target. How retro! If you are sticking with the Gmail address just log into your Hotmail account and set a forwarder to your Gmail so any mail sent to your old address arrives in...

    Idiots who can't drive!

Then it is no longer the inside lane, it is the slip road. Use it if you are turning off, don't if you aren't. Me too, but the speed I drive at does not dictate what lane I am in. If I am going faster than the traffic in front I move over to the right, and then move back to the left if the...

    Spot light help

Then you explain to the customer that this is an impossible task. I work with someone else who does this to me a lot, tells me the customers won't pay/don't want the work doing. How do you know, have you even asked? Tell them they need to get a carp[enter/plasterer in if they want it doing. I...
