    Smoke alarms

Im my experience the 10year lithium battery versions are more likely to have the batteries go west, in a rental hard wired is more likely not to be abused.

    Smoke alarms

Aico 3000 series and save half the cost on the10 year lithium battery version, need to be connected to the mains, but easy if you have looped lighting circuits, these have a lithium battery, but will only stay charged for about four months if not connected to the main power.

    This can’t have been cheap

There are quite a few American members on the other Electrical Forum and most seem to have trouble with AFDD's and remove them.

    This can’t have been cheap

Interesting, if that is the case do BBB think that only socket circuits have Arc faults?

Replacing hardwired interlinked smoke detector with combo smoke / CO

I would agree, but its a bit like not fitting fire rated downlighter a false economy IMO especially if installing these things for yourself and protecting your own loved ones.

Replacing hardwired interlinked smoke detector with combo smoke / CO

IMO I would throw them all out and start again with Aico alarms, all radio linked and the 3000 series are mains wired and not as expensive as the battery only options, be aware that the 3000 series back up battery is only capable of about three moths operation without the mains connected. Any...

Does not work like that in the real world, aftermarket parts are a big industry in nearly all mass produced products and are CE marked and placed on the market, this has been tested in court with aftermarket parts on vehicles which are far more life threatening than changing out a breaker in a...

Talking to a plumber about two days ago about re-furbishing our shower alcove, he wanted £250.00/day, seems to equate with most on here and their electricians hour rate or thereabouts.

    RCBO advice

There is of course a counter argument: CU boards are tested for compliance by the manufacturer without any units on board i.e. any MCB's etc. Component parts RCBO's etc are tested individually by the manufacturer for compliance. Why would putting all perfectly fitting Hager RCBO's into a Wylex...

    RCBO advice

I used to be on the Expert Witness register and this sort of question came up time and again, the presiding judge/coroner would have to make up their own mind and can only take on board the evidence presented to them, it is not for the witness's or the accused to give opinions unless asked.

Mains fire alarms and the Regs/Part P

Would not this come under a Minor works certificate in which case the requested works can be listed with a note saying requested by owner.

But what you can say is: BS7671 is a British Standard and as all British Standards is a guidance document only, not the Regulations these being "Electricity at Work Regulations (1989)", the deviation in question went beyond the standard required in the BS and provided better protection as a...
