    NICEIC initial assessment

Pity. My popcorn's getting cold. Could always buy another bucket though...

    NICEIC initial assessment

    Any update on this? LOL.

    NICEIC initial assessment

That simply isn't correct. Not only can you certify your work, but in fact you must certify your work to comply with BS7671. The NIC would take non-certification as a serious breach. It cannot be carried out by another contractor - you are the contractor being assessed and therefore you must...

    NICEIC initial assessment

If you haven't been certifying your work then this is a serious breach of BS7671 and absolutely will not and cannot be acceptable to the NICEIC.

    EARTH CONTINUITY

Yes you do. Not only is it a requirement of BS7671, but the conduit itself is an exposed conductive part which must be earthed.

Shared Neutral (not borrowed) 3 phase

I would agree and don't believe that any other interpretation would be correct.

    Pull cord for shower

Get an Electrician and promise never to attempt electrical work again.

    Resistance between two circuits

A shaver socket definitely IS NOT SELV. It utilises electrical separation which is completely different - it is low voltage rather than extra-low voltage.

    Earthing cable tray

    Extremely unlikely.

    Lighting wiring

And they must also NOT be covered in grey tape!

    fault finding

Sorry don't have Regs book on me at the minute but if you look below the table for the minimum measured values of insulation resistance it should be clear there.

    fault finding

For which bit? You've quoted both posts I made so I'm not clear which one you are enquiring about.
  13. Risteard

    fault finding

Well, it should be remembered that the cpc must not be disconnected so that it is connected to the earthing arrangement when the test is being carried out. (In fact this was one of the new requirements when the 17th Edition came out in 2008.) It should be remembered that the 2 Megohms and other...

    Wiring replacement pull cord switch

That would still be the norm here alright.

    Wiring replacement pull cord switch

NIHE allow T&E so no problem with a reduced cpc. However they would still expect twin brown to be used for a switchdrop rather than remarking brown & blue (as would everyone here to be honest). Also, they would expect 1.5mm^2 to be used for lighting. 1mm^2 isn't used here (and in fact...

    Wiring replacement pull cord switch

In the north they are permissible (as the work is carried out to BS7671) but it is never, ever done. Incidentally, BS7671 does specify a preference for conductors being identifiable throughout their length (though not a requirement so long as correctly marked at terminations). In the south...

He was told the same thing there Tony.

    Moving to Ireland from USA

Are you moving to the north or south of Ireland? If it is the north then electrical installation work is in compliance with BS7671:2008 (2015). If it is the south then it is in compliance with ET101:2008 incorporating Amendment 2 (2016). There are significant differences between the...

    Sy question

Why are you asking if you have already decided what the answer is?

    Sy question

As I said to you on another forum, SY, CY and YY cables are not recognised by BS7671 as they are to VDE standards with no appropriate British Standard. They should really only be used for control wiring, and yes the correct gland must always be used.
