    Armoured cable connections

It's a requirement in the south of Ireland that all ducting be red, including that installed by the electrical contractor for the consumer. In fact it's a breach of the Wiring Rules for it to be any other colour. That said, 50m of 2" red duct costs about €100.

How Can I Trust Electricians Opinions On Rewire?

That is very much opinion rather than fact.

Do Aico do a combined CO and smoke detector?

Just saw this but Ei Electronics/Aico advise fitting CO detectors on the ceiling. You might put them at breathing height in a bedroom where people are sleeping, but for the likes of a living room the ceiling is recommended. I wish they would do a combined Smoke/CO. I have used Heat/CO before in...

    Anyone in NI?

If you think NIE are bad wait until you see the ESB. (That said the ESB actually owns NIE now.) The ESB won't connect until a Completion Cert is submitted, and that cannot be done before the job is finished. Not surprised about NIE wanting the job finished too. Have also seen NIE refuse...

Did we ever arrive at an answer on this one ?

Flanged couplers are still used here.

Did we ever arrive at an answer on this one ?

Come across loose connections on the phase conductor also.

    Minimum amount of sockets

Maybe that will teach you not to leave your phone charging whilst you are sleeping!

Circuit breaker compatible with GE EP61 range

I would argue that they always made you responsible for the type testing. However they have made this more explicit due to the failure of many to grasp this.

Referendums ! Is there any point ?

Both referenda and referendums are correct. Purists like me would suggest referenda is really the more correct.

    CSCS cards .

In fairness as the CSCS card is not intended for the electrotechnical industry, which should instead seek the ECS card (which is affiliated to the CSCS) I would have to agree that their answer is the correct one.

Average install costs across the country ...NICEIC

Well I saw a remark on a Facebook site where an NIC employee made clear that it wasn't based on the 18th Edition. The e-mail from the NIC also states that it is not a suggestion of under or over charging but simply stating what the average prices are. However I am well aware that many are...

Average install costs across the country ...NICEIC

I think they've actually made it clear that their data predates the 18th Edition.

Rerouting Not Rewiring Cables - Need To Be Signed Off?

How is it a shortcut? It tests everything and is the technically correct way of doing the test, unless you are going to subsequently calculate (1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 etc.) - without calculating this you haven't actually established whether the insulation resistance meets the requirements of...

Rerouting Not Rewiring Cables - Need To Be Signed Off?

As I said RECI always insist on a global insulation resistance test, and rightly so.

Rerouting Not Rewiring Cables - Need To Be Signed Off?

I already answered that - the forms were designed to look nice. And there is anyway. You could list it next to the distribution circuit or meter tails or whatever. Or just note it next to every circuit which is the norm. Anyone disagreeing with me really ought to read 643.3.2 - and I can...

Rerouting Not Rewiring Cables - Need To Be Signed Off?

RE: Your shopping centre scenario, as I already pointed out, in larger installations it is permissible to insulation test each distribution board with all final circuits connected. So it isn't everything in the shopping centre together. The requirement is very clear in BS7671 if you care to...

Rerouting Not Rewiring Cables - Need To Be Signed Off?

Many RCBOs don't have functional earths attached, but of course it can be an issue. Also surge protection needs to be disconnected. However, my point remains that if you test individual circuits then you must calculate the resistances in parallel to verify BS7671 compliance as the minimum...
