    Purchasing a house with solar

Ive just been to view another property for my portfolio. When I got there the first thing I noticed was solar panels on the roof. I've never purchased a property with solar installed and have learned from this forum that it can be fitted on a lease. I've contacted the estate agent and asked...

    Solar panels Vs battery only

I suppose I could. My setup is self installed so no payback for me

    Solar panels Vs battery only

My octopus tariff is 12p 1230am -430am. 40p any other time with 50p standing charge. My old EDF was 33p any time and 39p standing charge. I calculated my usage from the past year if at 33p would be just over £3000 on leccy. Shocking

    Ideal temp for pylontech batterys

I've just been reading a few threads and something I totally overlooked when installing my battery's was running temperature. I've installed my battery's in my garage at the side of the inverter. Whilst I don't have a temp guage near the battery's I have the internal temp guage in the inverter...

    Oversized inverter

If it was a mistake the paperwork could be listing the original inverter and I'm not sure limits would be sat if they didn't know it was the wrong one

    Solar panels Vs battery only

You must have a fixed rate on octopus go cos my chargers are 12p and 40p high/low rates. The bot about smart meters. I had a mind melt. I was going to say smart inverters. IE hybrid inverters Link to the battery's. Tbh they look like they have come down in price though they charge £80...

    Solar panels Vs battery only

Pylontech 5000. Are around £1850 they are 4.8kwh. Inverters. Do they need to be smart meters when you don't have solar panels? I've hear mentioned on this forum you can get inverters to charge at higher rates. Tbh I think mine is 2.5kwh We have 5 adult on our house and are quite large...

    Solar panels Vs battery only

One major flaw with solar panels as we all know is they need sun light. (Not true obv) In a year their are approx 8750 hours. If we say the assumption is half these hours are night time 4375 And Where I live in Sheffield only 1485 are the avg sunlight hours per year. then it only leaves a...

    Solar panels Vs battery only

Btw I've ignored the std charge for both calcs Payback for the battery's would be just under 7 years. Spend 10k on solar panels and they would need to produce approx 8 months worth of electricity a year to match the £850 cost of the battery's. Presuming no low overnight tariff. Though life...

    Solar panels Vs battery only

Thanks Shaun. I was just doing a few calculations over breakfast and I was thinking a 20kwh battery setup should be able to produce approx 7200kwh per year and of only charged at the octopus go low rate . It would cost approx £850 per year

    Solar panels Vs battery only

Does it matter if your not vat registered. IE a self install

    Solar panels Vs battery only

It was just an idea that popped into my head. I guess ROI would be better going the solar route due to length of warranty and free leccy in the summer. I guess of your spending 10k on panels and an inverter then you should be able to get 7-8kwh worth of panelsproviding you have the room

    Solar panels Vs battery only

I can't remember who it was and the post was a bit sketchy as I was a newby. I may have been dreaming it lol. I think he had a Nissan leaf and worked approx 2 miles from home.

    Solar panels Vs battery only

Thanks Bob. Wouldn't really help with battery only switching between the tariffs. It just got me thinking when I read on hear about the bloke who charges his car over night. Drives it to work and then runs his office from the car battery before driving he again. Repeat..
