    Massive TV with black screen

Just an update on this, bought an LED tester for £12 and revealed that the LED strips are divided into 4 circuits, 1 is non functioning. Good news is it looks like the rear of the TV will come off rather than the usual way of removing the LCD panel to get to the LEDs. Still not sure where I can...

Three phase motor on single phase

where did you get the diagram? It won't work. Its a 3 phase motor, best options are either get a single phase motor or get a VSD (variable speed drive) which will 'convert' the single phase supply to a kind of synthetic 3 phase by using inverters. The variable speed function probably useful in a...

Wiring an electric screen via extension cord instead of into the wall. Feasible? , how much would it cost?

wago connectors need to be used individually, ie 1 for L, one for N and one for earth. the number of 'holes' in it define how many cables it is designed to take. For example a 2 way wago allows for 2 cables of the same polarity to be connected together. don't forget these connectors need to be...

    Massive TV with black screen

Well pretty sure its backlights. I have ordered a tester for a few quid which will power up the LED strips if they still work and will tell me if they don't. If they don't its likely its scrap as I can't find replacements. If the strips are OK then I know its the main board with the PSU etc and...

    Massive TV with black screen

The 'customer' doesn't want it back. if I can fix it its mine :)  if it were mine I would have been on the phone to Cello, but I don't know all the circumstances, if all else fails it will go in the WEE skip.

    Massive TV with black screen

Currently trying to repair a Cello C85ANSMT-4K LED TV. Its just over 2 years old and cost over £2K new. Customer says it just went blank when he switched it on one morning. Still playing sound but no picture at all. TV powers up but no backlighting coming on hence lack of picture. Backlighting...

    ranting rant

Yes I am allowed to go to work, Port Authority is a key operation so business as usual for me.  Could have ordered one online but I needed it ASAP To make matters worse after finally connecting the aforementioned SWA cable, I was up a ladder stripping a piece of T&E the usual way bu...

Found this" hanging off" a kitchen grid switch today

some ovens are only 3kw or less and can plug in. I notice that one is a 6.2kw I remember in NZ you could buy the bare grid and insert light switches and cooker switches on the same one if you wanted, as long as you had the right cable in the box.

    VHS transfer to PC

Thanks SL, the machine in question in your link is no longer available, if you do decide to do anything be careful. I dusted off my VCR and popped a tape in and it chewed it up. Thorough clean of heads and mechanism was done and now at least I know the tapes will be safe, if the heads are dirty...

    VHS transfer to PC

I have recently unearthed a pile of old VHS tapes. Mainly home video of my family etc. I want to get them all on to the PC to edit and sort out storage properly. I bought a cheap USB stick with composite cables that can go into the VCR but its poor and lots of interference. VHS plugged directly...

    Which Countries use sleeving?

In NZ and Aus, the twin and earth (TPS as they call it) contains 3 insulated cores all of the same size. No need for sleeving, although if they used switchwires the same way as we did they would need to identify the switched live return for example. They don't generally use this method instead...

So the stuff of Sci-fi past in the present?

well from 2022 all new cars will have speed limiters that recognise speed limits and slow the car down when necessary. Don't tell me these systems won't know where we are? More and more surveillance, people using Alexa etc having goodness who listening in to private conversations, cameras...

So the stuff of Sci-fi past in the present?

Nothing new in this:  This was written 2000 years ago. 16 Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead,17 so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of...

    Wow, wow, wow

I don't know how many times I have been told by someone (usually who has just bought or are thinking of buying a house) that it needs rewiring. I usually ask 'who told you that?' and the culprit is usually an estate agent or a surveyor. In most cases it requires a few improvements such as...
