    NAPIT Assessment first time

I remember sweating before my first assessment but In all honesty I think the only way you'd fail an assessment is if you took out the live tails and started chewing on them, it was a breeze. I'm sure all the bodies are the same but so long as you have the required insurances and the all...

    EV Charger...double pole MCB?

Probably breaking a few rules but it was from these guys https://www.test-meter.co.uk/ 👍

    EV Charger...double pole MCB?

It was £70 for the week once all the vat and delivery each way was added on. It was as a one off to install a charger at my own place. I've no intention of installing them regularly until all this grant business has been ditched so buying one seemed like a waste of money. Obviously if you're...

    EV Charger...double pole MCB?

You can hire them for a reasonable rate. I did this for the charger I installed at my place.

How can I tell if my water supply pipe is providing an earth?

DNO or Distribution Network Operator are who looks after the supply to your house, everything before your meter basically. It varies by area as to who it is.

Petition for Government to allow Electricians to pull DNO Fuse

Couldn't disagree more, why should we have to fork out for more courses/yearly costs. Best practise would be for DNOs to come out and fit an isolator in a free and timely manner when one is requested. Although it's the supplier/DNO difference it should be worked out between them that it is done...

Big brother controlling when I'm allowed a cuppa

there'a a fair few trucks running on it. There's a filling station near me for waitrose (I think) trucks. Warburtons used to run CNG trucks too but not sure if they still do, they have just bought an electric one to trial.

Big brother controlling when I'm allowed a cuppa

Octopus do a rate called Agile. Updates the price regularly, smart controllers (car chargers) plugs and the like communicate with it and they only charge when the rate drops below a preset rate. Ideal system and for most people will work well.  I'm on their faster rate, 5.5ppkwh 8:30pm to...

    'Pay for' EV charge point

Heating depends on the type used. My van is basic spec so has resistive heating which is quite heavy on the battery. The newer vans are on a more efficient heating (not sure on the type) so is better on the battery. My van averages 4 miles per KWH not matter how heavy it is or the temperature...

    Electric help

Not sure on the legalities but I would say you're having electricity stolen from you.  I wouldn't hesitate in calling the estate agent/landlord everyday, multiple times a day, make sure you become a real pain in their backside until it's sorted.  As mentioned by other members get onto Citizens...

    'Pay for' EV charge point

You can install some that work off RFID cards, maybe this could be set up for a client when they book. The one I have at home can be set up for this but never looked into it more than that as I don't need to bill myself for it. Similarly it logs the charging sessions per use, both in kwH and...

Not that I am over here but I wouldn't be too keen on going under floors over there.

    Electric help

Sounds to me like the landlord should be paying the main electric bill and then subtracting from your meter the sub meter's figures to divide it between the two of you and then charging each tenant accordingly.  If it is a sub meter coming from your metered supply (not a looped supply) there...

    Premature collapse cable support

It's to stop entanglement of people getting out/firefighters getting in and out. Firefighters aren't going to be going into a wooden summer house and people are going to be able to get out long before cables start to drop over exit routes. Most summer houses are so poorly constructed the plastic...

    EICR offer on fleabay

    EICR RCD question

Mostly bad  :^O They've also put LIM on the inspection schedule for some of the inspection items (sections 13 &15), but then in the limitations section on the cert (page one section 4) they've put N/A.  Also, nit picking, they don't know the difference between O and 0 (max Zs on page 7)...

    EICR RCD question

Unless they're being really pedantic as new labels are slightly different wording and dimensions. You have the labels they've said you don't. As for being a C2 and a C3 for the same thing it's most likely poor form filling. Some software auto generates codes, likely a C3 then they've upped it...

    Fuse Box Replacement

Despite what the regs say, if you're sticking in a metal consumer unit you might as well make it as much of a fireproof box as you can, the regs are a minimum standard, nothing wrong with exceeding them.

    Fuse Box Replacement

If you can post some pictures on here members should be able to ***** the IP rating problem. Interesting your original guy says it's ok but the EICR says it isn't. You shouldn't really have IP issues on a metal CU, unless the cable entry knock outs haven't been done right.  For reference the...

    caught my eye?

Further to that there is the confusion over what a proper qualified electrician is. Some are adamant the only way is via the time served route, others say courses are fine, I think the only general agreement is that the short courses aren't ok. I've seen bad work done by older time served and...
